J36 Rural Auction Centre: Sale of Prime Hoggs & Cast Sheep, Tuesday 18th February 2025. Prime Hoggs The good days keep on coming. The prime hogg trade was very strong on the whole, once again at Junction 36. A mixed show of sheep forward saw the average slightly down on the week, however this doesn’t tell the full tale, as many vendors received a very similar trade or better than the previous Tuesday. Well fed and fit hoggs along with the best bred, still faced an unbelievable force of demand, with the busy ringside of buyers still hungry for more at the end of the day. A pen of three Texels topped the day at £220 from J France, Pilling. The same home sold a further pen of eight for £205. Lewis McCarrick, Chorley hit £210 with a Texel, while Suffolks topped at the £200 mark from Stockdale Farms, Sedbergh. Beltex sheep sold to 392p/kg from PJ&ES Rogerson, Appleby for a smart pen of four. Handy weight Texels sold well again, with 43kg hoggs hitting £160 or 372.1p/kg from RF Morphet, Halton and 42kg hoggs from Messrs Black, Kendal achieved £156 or 371.4p/kg. Lighter sheep sold well subject to plenty of coverage! MJ Shepherd, Newbiggin got to 360p/kg for 35kg Texels. Even lighter hoggs which were plentiful today were up to 351.6p/kg for three 31kg Texels off RG&L Potter, Tebay. More numbers are required next week again, with no sign of let up. Once again a highly satisfying trade for all types with especially Mules, Swaledale and Herdwicks selling fantastically well.
