Weekly Report and Newsletter - 17th February 2023 Lancaster Auction Mart: Weekly Sale of Prime Hoggs and Cast Sheep. Fortnightly Sale of Store Hoggs, Monday 13th February 2023. Prime Hoggs The weekly sale at Lancaster boasted an entry of 500 hoggs forward selling to a market average of 232p/kg, over 10p/kg up on the week. Heavy weight hoggs were keenly bid for selling to a top of £156 for Texels from R&DL Cornthwaite, Nateby with other Texels selling to £150 from RC Billington & Son, Claughton on Brock and £148 from B&J Preston, Caton. Best quality lambs once again sold over the 300p/kg mark at Lancaster, topping at 311p/kg for 44kg Texels (£137pph) from R Capstick & Son, Ingleton. Beltex hoggs saw a top of 295p/kg (£127pph) from R&DL Cornthwaite, Nateby. A wonderful run of Dutch Texels from GR&A Foy, Conder Green sold to a top of 295p/kg (£129pph). Hill bred hoggs saw 54kg Mules from T&CM Kelsall & Sons, Chipping sell to £121 with this home also selling other full pens of Mules to £118. Mule hoggs were regularly away at 220-225p/kg. Cheviots sold to a top of £100 from LA Bradshaw, Stalmine. Dalesbred hoggs topped at £95 from R Capstick & Son, Ingleton with other Dalesbreds selling to £93 from WI&A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale. Store Hoggs There was a small entry of store hoggs forward which saw Suffolks selling to a top price of £71.50 from PG Thornton, Scorton who sold Texels at £70. The closing sale of store hoggs at Lancaster is on Monday 27th February 2023. Cast Sheep All cull sheep sold to a faster trade on the week with Texels selling to a top of £132 from T&EA Garth, Bleasedale and Leicester ewes selling to £128 from M&L Preece, Kirkby Lonsdale. The best Continental bred ewes were regularly selling at £115-£125 mark. Mule ewes saw the biggest lift in trade of the week, topping twice at £122 from PG Thornton, Scorton and T&EA Garth, Bleasdale. Hill ewes saw a top of £80 for Cheviots from KM&KJ Curwen, Abbeystead with Swaledales topping at £62 from W Pinder, Clitheroe. Cast rams topped twice for Dutch Texels at £114 from GR&A Foy, Conder Green.
