Spring Lambs A larger entry of 651 lambs were forward, as expected a reduction in trade as seen nationally with an overall average of 294p/kg. Best types still very much holding their own and achieving maximum values at Lancaster market. Top price was £152 achieved twice for Texels from D&K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe and S Rossall, Over Wyresdale. Many heavy weight lambs regularly sold at £140 plus. Continental bred lambs were regularly selling at 310p/kg to 320p/kg with Mule bred sorts regularly selling at 280p/kg to 300p/kg. Beltexs saw 38kg lambs sell to £135 from JS Horner, Ingleton. Cast Sheep Just shy of 200 ewes were forward with an overall average of £100 achieved, as expected ewe trade was a little back from the high of last week. Texels sold to £158 from H Cooper & Son, Inskip who sold Beltex ewes to £156. Suffolk ewes sold to £134 from KA Purtill, Wigan. Leicester’s sold to £131 from RH&C Ayrton, Abbeystead with Mules from this good home selling to £122. Hill ewes saw a top of £112 from S Wilson & Son, Scotforth.
