Weekly Report and Newsletter- 9th August 2024 Lancaster Auction Mart: Weekly Sale of Prime Lambs & Cast Sheep, Monday 5th August 2024. Prime Lambs A bigger show of 550 lambs were put before a full ring side of buyers, all keen to purchase all types of lambs. Heavy bred first cross Suffolks sold to £178 from R&D Kellet, Cockerham with Texels to £175 from B&J Preston, Caton and Beltex cross to £172 from C Ellison, Pilling. Best bred lambs were keenly bid for, with these regularly 340p/kg to 350p/kg. The best sold to 362p/kg for a pen of Beltex from C Ellison, Pilling with others to 360p/kg from P&V Bennett, Lancaster. Well finished commercial type lambs were regularly 320p/kg to 330p/kg, with other slightly under finished lambs below 300p/kg. A bigger show of hill bred lambs were forward, with a run of well finished Masham lambs from S&J France, Over Wyresdale to £130. A pen of 36kg Horned lambs sold to £102.50 from W Pinder, Clitheroe. More lambs could have easily been sold to the vendor’s advantage. Horned: £100 Longstripes Farm. Cast Sheep 100 ewes were forward, selling to an over average of £122. Pure bred Texels sold to £252 from JRP Hughes, Quernmore. A pen of strong first cross Texel ewes sold to £196 from CM&CA Jackson, Caton with the strongest end £180 plus. Strong Mules sold to £172 from JE&J Pye & Son, Quernmore who sold other pens to £164, with nice meated sorts £130 to £140. Dalesbred ewes sold to £112 from D&J Hay, Cockerham, with Herdwicks to £102 from W Pinder Jnr, Clitheroe. Meated strong Horned ewes were regularly £85 to £95. Cast Ewes Top Prices: Texel: £252 Askew Hill, £196 Forgelands, £180 Arna Wood Farm, £174, £172 Birch House Cottage, £167 Oak Aveune. Mule: £172, £164 Gibsons Farm, £140 The Crest, £140 Mearsbeck Farm, £136 Lee End Farm, £135 Askew Hill. Continental: £164 Dockensall Farm, £136 Oak Aveune. J36 Rural Auction Centre: Sale of Prime Lambs & Cast Sheep, Tuesday 6th August 2024. Prime Lambs A pleasing entry of 1574 lambs were forward, and sold to a strong average of 309p/kg. Once again here at Junction 36 all heavy lambs were adding up nicely. Texel sold to £187 from M&RW Stirzaker, Milnthorpe. Beltexs sold to £177 from J&R Waller, Killington. Charmoise sold to £175 from LA&M Lambert, Lupton and Suffolks to £169 from WT Whitaker & Son, Nether Kellet. Heavy pens were regularly £155 to £165. Best bred lambs saw Beltexs to 370p/kg from C Henderson, Chipping, who also sold Blue Texels to 355p/kg. The best bred lambs were regularly 335p/kg to 350p/kg. Nice meated commercial bred lambs were 320p/kg to 328p/kg. More Mule lambs were on offer today, with the best selling to £145 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale, with a full ring full to £139 from R Capstick & Son, Ingleton. Prime Lamb Top Prices: Texel: £187 Station Hotel Farm, £177 Hallbeck, £175 Brow Head, £169 Arklid Farm, £167.5 Howriggs, £167 Benson Hall. Suffolk: £169 £159.5 Lane Ends Farm, £167.5 Station Hotel Farm, £158 High House Farm, £157 Angerton Hall Farm. Continental: £163 £130 Brow Head, £134 £123 Corney Hill Farm, £129 £122 Angerton Hall Farm. Charolais: £156 Bowness Farm, £143.5 Black Bull Farm, £122 Meathop Park Farm. Zwartble: £113 Woodside. Cheviot: £109 Hardberry Hill Farm. Cast Sheep An entry of 438 cast ewes were forward, with all categories selling to an increased trade on the week. Top price of the day was £272 for a Texel from D&S Robinson, Old Hutton. All strong well fleshed pure bred Texels surpassed £220. The best of the first cross ewes reached £216 from SW Atkinson, Crook, with these types regularly north of £180. Hampshire sold to £192 from J&O Galbraith, Endmoor with Charollais from JG&BJ Escolme, Killington at the same price. A good entry of Mule ewes sold to £186 from SW Atkinson, Crook with Masham’s reaching £174 from MA&JA Winn, Burneside. Hill ewes sold to £182 from for Cheviots from D&S Robinson, Endmoor with the best of the horned ewes reaching £132 from GW Robinson, Milnthorpe. Cast rams sold to £185 for a Suffolk and £178 for a Texel.
