Welcome to the very first issue of the Weirs Fashion Room Trend Report. This summer issue is packed full of accessory essentials – from the hottest new labels to land in store, including Swatch and Paul Hewitt, to the newest pieces from firm favourites Thomas Sabo, Alex Monroe, Swarovski and Bering.
In between, you’ll discover the latest in jewellery news and trends, as well as getting a sneak peek at what’s in store in The Fashion Room at Weirs this summer.
Weir & Sons on Grafton Street is one of Dublin’s most iconic stores along with our Dundrum Town Centre store on Level 1, renowned for gorgeous gems, dazzling diamonds, stunning watches and more, along with the very highest standards in quality and customer service. Established in 1869, it’s always been a destination that plays host to the world’s most desirable international brands.
As popularity and demand for fashion pieces has grown, the store has evolved with it, culminating in the expansion of The Fashion Room, which now spans the entire lower ground floor of the store and features a selection of world-class fashion jewellery and watch brands. Check out our Sweet Treats shoot (page 04) where we married our favourite desserts with the tastiest rings, earrings, and charms. Buyers Choice
Head buyer Aoife selects her absolute must-have from The Fashion Room. Photographed by Bríd O’Donovan.

“Each piece of jewellery I own has its own story; whether it’s a present from a loved one or a self-gift to mark a particular time or place in my life. When I was asked to choose my favourite piece from The Fashion Room’s current collection I was delighted as it gave me the excuse I needed to acquire a particular piece I’ve been eyeing for a while. The Alex Monroe Dor Beetle pendant is handmade in sterling silver with 22ct gold vermeil.”
“It arrived in store earlier this year and I fell in love; it is described as an archetype of its kind and I can see why. The dor beetle, also known as a scarab, has been used in jewellery design for thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians used it as a representation of Ra, the sun god and it symbolises luck and prosperity – something I feel we could all use a little of in our day-to-day lives.”
“This pendant has a very distinct Alex Monroe feel. Inspiration taken from nature is a running theme in his collection, whether it be an English countryside or the Entomology exhibit at the zoo. The hand finish and attention to detail in each piece makes me feel that my pendant is one of a kind. This particular piece is a statement, it can be worn on its own or layered with other pendants. It is a fresh take on a classic design, a true staple in every girl’s jewellery collection.”
Alex Monroe is exclusive in Dublin to Weir & Sons. Pendant, €165.

Daniel Wellington watches have become one of the most loved, Instagrammed and hash-tagged of the year, thanks to their slick design and fashion-friendly faces. It’s DW’s first ever mesh watch band, which makes it super lightweight and comes with silver or rose gold plating. If it’s good enough for Kendall...

LEO July 23 – August 22
Things may be a little chaotic from mid-August until early September due to a retrograde that invades your sign, so be careful when making travel plans and ground yourself with earthy tones. Bronzallure earrings, €85
VIRGO August 23 – September 22
Time to make planning a priority, Virgo. Open that savings account, tick those to-dos off your list once and for all, and start to think about what you really want from your life on a grand scale. Blues and greys always ground your energy, so keep those colours close. Dyrberg/Kern pendant, €69.

SCORPIO October 23 - November 21

2017 is an important year for you, Sagittarius. Without realising, your steady, solid work ethic and constant care for those around you has built a solid foundation for the life you want to live. Keep doing what you’re doing – add a little shimmer with these earrings, €49.

PISCES February 19 – March 20
The sun enters Pisces this summer, which brings memories and old flames to the fore. Be careful not to fall into old habits. FACE UP
Take a closer look at this season’s most covetable timepieces. Photographed by Bríd O’Donovan.

HOMEGROWN
Meet five of our favourite Irish designers fresh from The Fashion Room.
We’re all about supporting homegrown talent, and it’s never been easier thanks to these Irish designers. Chupi, the pioneering label led by Chupi Sweetman, has taken the beauty of nature, coated it in gold and made from silver. Her new ‘Stars’ collection is at the top of our wish list this season. Meanwhile, Julie Danz and Vincent Tynan make up Dublin-based design duo Juvi, who always pack a punch with their colour-pop pendants and cocktail rings. This season they champion coral with a fluid and ethereal sea-inspired collection. Irish and Swedish watchmaker duo Ansley is new to The Fashion Room at Weirs this summer. Expect expert craftsmanship and classic design - each watch has an interchangeable strap, so treating yourself to one of these timepieces is a real investment. The highlight of Sundial’s new collection is their mid-sized rose gold bracelet, with a contrasting charcoal grey dial that’s super sophisticated and sure to make the perfect accessory to your summer ensemble. Last, but certainly not least is Paul Costelloe whose Phoenix Bridal Collection is a nod to Hollywood glamour and decadence. Sláinte. All pieces available in store.

BLACK OUT
This season everyone from Ansley, Armani and Swatch have gone to the dark side, embracing black-on-black in their timepieces. Even Fossil and Michael Kors Gents, both new additions to The Fashion Room, have joined the trend. The beauty of these babies? They’ll look as good with a long-sleeved tee as they will with a smart dress shirt. It’s all about making a subtle statement in the new noir.

STORIES
We’re ready for the new wave of ocean-inspired accessories.

Perhaps it’s the rise of The Wild Atlantic Way, but we’re slightly obsessed with all things maritime this summer. Alex and Ani’s new collection is a treasure trove of mermaids, golden seashells and pearl charms. Brand new to The Fashion Room is Swedish super brand Tom Hope, whose sailing rope and anchor-inspired bracelets are popping up all over our Insta-feeds. Even Chupi is in on the nautical trend, launching a new shell collection, while Thomas Sabo’s starfish charm is one of their sweetest yet. Want to ride the wave? Think sailor stripes, blue hues, shimmering pearlescents and silvery greys for the ultimate in oceanic-chic.

TIMEPIECE
We meet three of the city’s finest to find out what makes their watch choices tick.

Editor Mike Sheridan is somewhat of a watch obsessive. “I have six watches and some I use for casual daywear, others look perfect just peeking out from a shirt cuff with a blazer.” For our shoot, he chose a chunky Hugo Boss watch – it’s the kind of style he usually gravitates towards. “I’m all about keeping it simple. I don’t like a silver or gold strap – I prefer leather. This is the kind of watch I can wear day-to-day – I’m a slim-fit jeans and t-shirt guy.”
His schedule right now is pretty hectic, having just launched a new venture with his friend (and now business partner) Adrian Collins. “We’ve created a new men’s site called The Fourth Wall. We’ve pitched it as somewhere between The Ringer and Esquire. We both felt there was a gap in the Irish market for a male-focused lifestyle site that covered style and fitness heavily.”
What’s on the Entertainment.ie Editor’s radar? “I listen to a lot of podcasts – Bill Simmons, Joe Rogan, Bill Burr. Music-wise my training dictates my playlist. I’m loving the new Haim stuff and I’m a huge fan of The Foo Fighters and Johnny Cash.” We’re halfway through 2017 now, so what has been the highlight so far? “I’d say sitting down with Keanu Reeves earlier this year. I grew up watching his films, so to get to chat to him was surreal. He’s an icon for guys my age.”

It’s no overstatement to say that Adam Gaffey is single-handedly reshaping the face of men’s fashion in Dublin. The 24-year-old’s publication MFI has catapulted him straight into style royalty both here and abroad. The men’s magazine is a showcase of the best in Irish style and fashion photography, and Adam has been its driving force since inception. He’s known for his adventurous and fun sense of style (he’s rocked a cape or two in his time), but when it comes to his choice in watches he’s a minimalist at heart. “Personally, I like a watch to be slim and lightweight. Monochrome is safe, but it’s always attractive and it can be worn with anything. You can’t go wrong. That’s why I chose this Hugo Boss piece today. It’s such a classic.”
What’s on the agenda for the MFI team right now? “We’re currently preparing for London Fashion Week. We’re also working hard on the Autumn Winter '17 issue, due out this September.”
Seeing the magazine go from strength to strength has been Adam’s 2017 highlight so far. “I was going home on the bus a few weeks ago when I noticed a very smartly dressed guy across from me reading MFI. It was surreal – I’ll never forget that feeling.”
@adam_gaffey_ @mfimagazine
When Dublin GAA Footballer and entrepreneur Philly isn’t on the pitch or working on his new businesses and charity, you’ll find him ogling his next watch purchase. “I’m a bit of a fanatic. I’d describe my personal style as different, and the same goes for my taste in timepieces. I like watches that are unusual. This piece stood out immediately for me – the detail and craftsmanship is incredible. It’s on my wishlist, for sure.”
The sports star has made a seamless progression from pitch to burgeoning business. So, what’s been happening and what can we expect from Philly over the next few months? (Besides an All-Ireland win, obviously.) “Well, my Fitfood range is nearly ready to go into retail and I’m looking at a fast food concept restaurant, too. My Bedo7 fitness club in Charlestown is doing extremely well, so I’m looking to continue to grow the membership. My charity Half Time Talk is nearly ready to launch, too. It’s pretty busy right now.”
Does he ever take a break? “Yes! That’s something I’m really excited about at the moment, actually. I find it impossible to get away with all of my football commitments, so I’m looking forward to taking a real break with my girlfriend, Sarah, to Rome this summer.”

HOTSPOTS
Our selection of the most talked about bars, breakfast joints and brasseries worth experiencing this summer.
MEET ME IN THE MORNING
This little café, tucked away in Portobello, is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it favourite amongst locals. They keep it simple here – just a handful of dishes each day, served up in a pared-back setting – but boy, do they get it right. The Nut Eile, a posh take on Nutella on toast, is unbeatable – roasted hazelnuts and raw cacao slathered across slices of toasted fresh sourdough and sprinkled with sea salt. For savoury lovers, their eggs and chard on sourdough is too good to share, especially when topped off with a side of chorizo. The coffee is strong and roasted to perfection.
50 Pleasants Street, Dublin 2
ROBERTA’S
Anyone who has hoped Temple Bar could be great again has had all their wishes granted with the grand arrival of Roberta’s restaurant. The newest sibling to The Dean, Peruke and Periwig and Angelina’s family is not dissimilar in its fare - steaks, pizzas and fresh pasta served up with a side of panache. The real treat here is the setting. From the neon signage and tiled entrance, to the giant domed bar, garden and plush booths that were made for brunching the weekend away in, we have our new summer spot signed, sealed and delivered.
1 Essex Street East, Temple Bar
WILDE AT THE WESTBURY
Homed in The Westbury Hotel, this buzzy brasserie is a dreamy concept. Half indoors, half al fresco, covered in greenery, plush 1930s art deco-inspired fixtures and fittings, Wilde is the closest thing we have to a Parisian café in the city. And the food? Think hearty portions of thick-cut truffle chips, superfood salads and steaks, all made with the very best in Irish produce. Make it your business to sample their bespoke G&T menu too, in particular the Gunpowder Irish Gin with grapefruit peel, cinnamon and juniper berries – simply delicious.
Harry Street, Dublin 2
URCHIN
As creative cuisine goes, Urchin tops the bill. The beach-inspired cocktail bar with small bites serves up tasting portions of fresh fish with a side order of the unexpected. Go in with an open mind and be set to sample Irish sea urchin (naturally), Irish wagyu and Irish skate with an oriental slaw served with a ponzu jam on banana leaf. The cocktails here are a revelation. We recommend the Mango Smash – made with Prizefight Whiskey, mango, mint, lemon and simple syrup, it’s the perfect way to while away an evening.
