Based on Sternberg’s theory of Successful Intelligence, the ED LAB employs arts-based technique for intellectual stimulation and creative growth in your students. An approved Connecticut Professional Development Provider by the State Department of Education, participants in this program can earn professional development hours (formerly known as CEUs).

Each session consists of two 2-hour workshops that capture the themes of productions in our Student Theatre Series, and will give you the tools to actively engage your students while promoting deep learning of subject matter, adaptability and creativity. At the end of each session we will meet to discuss events of the day. By receiving feedback, Long Wharf Theatre can tailor the ED LAB to suit the needs of its participants.

This will serve as a guide for you upon returning to the classroom and will contain supplemental reading, web pages, classroom activities and workshop facilitator information.
Teacher Information Packets
Comprehensive packets, created specifically to enhance classroom curricula, contain background information on Long Wharf Theatre’s scheduled productions as well as an activity guide including essay questions, discussion prompts and more. Available on the LWT website, these TIPs can be digitally brought into your classroom for a more interactive learning experience.
Video Study Guides
A behind-the-scenes perspective, each Video Study Guide follows a production from initial concept to opening night. These videos are an excellent tool for engaging students on a visual level.
3-day residencies
When you purchase tickets to an 11 am student matinee, we’ll deepen your students’ theatre-going experience with two 60-minute pre-show workshops followed by a 60-minute postshow workshop for free!
partnering artist in residence program (pair)
Each teacher that participates in our ED LABs for the season may elect to be assigned their own LWT Teaching Artist. They will visit the teacher’s classes once a month to co-teach an arts integrated lesson. This arrangement provides extra support for the educator in the transfer of techniques from ED LAB workshops to the classroom. The PAIR will be a consistent partner with the educator and their school. There is no cost to the teacher or the school!

ABOUT LONG WHARF THEATRE Long Wharf Theatre (Gordon Edelstein, Artistic Director; Joshua Borenstein, Managing Director), founded in 1965, is recognized as a leader in American theatre, producing fresh and imaginative revivals of classics and modern plays, rediscoveries of neglected works and a variety of world and American premieres.
