FROM TRASH TO District Resident's 17-Year Crusade Against Litter Just after he and Barabara, his wife, moved to Flowers Plantation Stephen became concerned that people would toss their trash out onto our streets and walkways. Steve said that there is a great deal of money invested in planting and maintaining the beauty of our neighborhood and it is sad that this happens. So, he decided to do something about it and at 84 years old he continues to walk the area and pick up litter. He appreciates nature and the environment.
In his earlier days he volunteered to help build and maintain trails in Mohonk Preserve in the Hudson River Valley in New York. He definitely knows what it takes to build and maintain our common areas. In regard to the large amount of litter, it is interesting that Steve feels only a very few people would be so thoughtless but they do it all the time.
The next time you see Steve picking up litter wave and say thank you!

SELMA CYCLEPATHS
The Selma Cyclepaths Club was formed over 30 years ago to raise awareness and money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society through participation in the annual Bike MS ride in New Bern. Since then we have raised more than $2million dollars for this worthy cause. Finding a cure for MS is near and dear to our hearts as many of our members either live with MS or have close ties to someone who does. Our fundraising work continues! On September 9 & 10, twenty nine of our club
members participated in this year’s BIKE MS ride in New Bern. We had formal training rides from April through August to be prepared for the weekend, and most of our members rode 150 miles during the 2-day event. Our goal this year is to raise $75,000 for the MS Society whose mission is to find a cure for MS. To date we have raised over $53,000.
