ACADEMY OF MUSIC AND VOCAL ARTS: MARIE SPIDALE

M
arie Spidale, former Clayton High School Comet, Carolina Youth Theater alumni and Johnston County resident, returned to Flowers Plantation to put down roots and bring music to the community. Marie originally moved to Flowers, at age 16 with her family, in 2007 where she completed her last two years of high school. During those years she helped to restart the Clayton High School Performing Arts Program, after a long hiatus, with their production of Once Upon a Mattress. Longtime residents might recall her performance as leading lady Winifred. She also took to the stage with Carolina Youth Theater in their productions of Godspell (Joanne), Bye, Bye, Birdie (Rosie) and Once on this Island (Ti Moune). After high school, her studies took her to Illinois where she earned her Bachelor’s of Music degree in Vocal Performance at Millikin University. This education afforded her the
opportunity to perform on many stages in leading roles (Ariel in The Little Mermaid, Lily in The Secret Garden, Rosa Bud in The Mystery of Edwin Drood, etc.) and travel internationally with one of the United States’ most prestigious choirs (Millikin University Choir). Her education continued further in Pennsylvania where she earned a master’s degree in Music Vocal Performance at Temple University. During that time, Marie taught voice and piano at Chestnut Hill Music Academy, continued to perform onstage and was invited to teach her own roster of undergraduate voice students in the Temple University Musical Theater Program.
her return, she has performed with the North Carolina Opera in their productions of Carmen and Pagliacci and opened the Academy of Music & Vocal Arts in the fall of 2019 at 34 Oleander Drive. Since then, her students have performed in local Flowers events, undergone a switch to virtual learning through a turbulent pandemic and now have returned to in person instruction with a year full of exciting performance opportunities on the horizon!
The Academy of Music & Vocal Arts offers private music/vocal lessons and special ensemble programs for all instruments and voice types for ages 4+. Thales Academy is coming to Flowers Plantation! Opening this August, Now Enrolling Pre-K—7th Grade
Thales Academy will be located at 65 Flowers Parkway, right here in Flowers Plantation. Building construction is currently underway and will be completed in time for an August opening. Thales Academy is a network of schools that began in Raleigh and now serves communities throughout NC, VA, and TN. Thales Academy at Flowers Plantation will initially offer Pre-K through 7th Grade for the 2022-2023 school year, and plans to add subsequent grades in future years, eventually providing a full K-12 offering, contingent on adequate interest and enrollment for staffing.
