welcome
TWENTY-FIRST EDITION WELCOME TO THE 21ST EDITION OF GUTS, BUTTS & NUTS
Back in 2005, Guts, Butts & Nuts started as a straightforward way for our customers to benchmark their cattle. Over two decades later, it has evolved into a standard industry resource. This year, we’re happy to share data on 5407 bulls from 156 herds, offering one of the most complete performance overviews available today. We know that every operation has unique needs, which is why Country Junction Feeds offers far more than standard feed. From custom-blend minerals and bagged feeds to Hoffman’s Horse Products and Canadian Nursette milk replacers, our family of brands has your herd covered. At the center of it all is our flagship Right Way Rations, which is built on more than 60 years of innovation and supported by top Canadian nutritionists dedicated to your success. To deliver a true “apples-to-apples” evaluation of feeding programs, this edition focuses strictly on yearling bulls from the 2025 calf crop using data drawn directly from 2026 sale catalogues. We track three core metrics: Adjusted 365-Day Weights Sale-Day Weights Scrotal Circumference Thank you for being part of our journey over the last 21 years. We hope this year’s report brings useful perspective to your management strategy for the season ahead!

SCROTAL MEASURMENTS measurments. With scrotal circumferences having such a huge impact in any purebred breeder’s bottom line, we can’t emphasize enough how Right Way Rations can play such an important role. With ingredients such as chelated minerals, added selenium, and a wellbalanced protein/energy ration, we have seen increases in scrotal circumferences and earlier maturity in these sale bulls. The overall average of all Country Junction fed bulls is 39 cm, while non-Country Junction fed bulls is 38.64 cm, a difference of 0.36 cm. 2026 marks the 21st year that we have been following scrotal measurements with the Right Way Ration. It is ever-evolving and we will be continuing to frequently study the results of this program.

BULLweights. WEIGHTS ADJUSTED 365-DAY WEIGHTS
In this section, we examine the adjusted 365-day weights of the yearling bulls analyzed in this year’s dataset. Comparing adjusted 365-day weights is one of the most effective benchmarks for evaluating yearling bull feeding programs. While genetics establish the foundation for growth, nutrition plays a critical role in driving performance and average daily gain during this key development phase. The vast majority of the Country Junction– fed bulls included in this analysis were developed on our Right Way pellet program.
SALE DAY WEIGHTS This chart illustrates the final sale day weights across the yearling bull dataset evaluated for this year’s report. We feature this metric because it offers a complete picture of the entire feeding program from start to finish. To ensure data consistency and prevent seasonal skewing, the analysis focuses strictly on sales taking place in February and March. While on-farm management, environment, and genetics all influence final sale weights, these results demonstrate how a Country Junction Feeding Program consistently maximizes growth performance and helps producers capture full value on sale day.

CHARWORTH CHAROLAIS FARMS We have been proudly raising Charolais for over 50 years. Our program has come a long way since the first Canadian Charolais of the late 60’s, with current focuses on calving ease, structural soundness, and growth. The foundation of any good breeding program starts with good cow families. We prioritize maintaining strong milk, fertility, and longevity traits within our cow herd. We focus on functional cattle and always breed to bulls that have lots of hair – so a thick haircoat is a definite bonus that customers always notice in our bull pens! Our calves are ‘ranch raised’ with the cows calving in January and February on swath grazing. Calves are offered super oats over the spring and summer before we transition our bull calves to a Country Junction ration at weaning. We’ve been using Country Junction rations for a few years now and there is a noticeable improvement in foot structure, longevity, and overall health as the rations are of consistent quality and gentle on livestock while still providing nutrition for growth. In addition to this, we find our calves more easily make the transition between super oats to the Country Junction rations following weaning compared to other brands. Whether you’ve been using Charolais genetics for a while, or if you’re interest to see what all the hype is about, feel free to reach out anytime or stop by to our annual bull sale, the first Friday in March at Innisfail Auction Market. ~ The Shuttleworth’s

GAINS WITHOUT GRAINS without grains. T H E R I G H T WAY F A M I LY O F F E E D S - C O U N T RY J U N C T I O N F E E D S
Welcome to the Right Way family of beef feeds — a line of specially formulated bull and heifer development pellets designed to support both performance and longevity.
Right Way rations provide the energy needed for healthy growth in most classes of cattle without relying on starch as the primary energy source. Instead, they are built on highly digestible fibers, making them a safer and more sustainable option compared to traditional grain-based rations.
At Country Junction Feeds, we believe in feeding the rumen first. Our fiber-based pellet promotes a healthy rumen microbial population, allowing cattle to digest forages more efficiently. Unlike starch-heavy feeds that can cause pH imbalances and increase the risk of acidosis, Right Way Rations support a more stable rumen environment, optimizing both digestion and long-term productivity. You might ask, “Why not just feed forages?” While forages are essential, on their own they often don’t provide enough energy to support optimal growth. The fiber in forages tends to act more as filler than as a true performance driver. That’s why Right Way Rations strike the perfect balance, combining digestible fiber with targeted nutrition to unlock your cattle’s genetic potential. In addition to protein and energy, Right Way pellets deliver a complete package of vitamins, minerals, and yeast: Chelated trace minerals for improved absorption and faster uptake into the bloodstream Added vitamins A, D, and E to support immune function and development Proven results in scrotal development and mineral status, particularly where water quality challenges exist Yeast cultures that promote immune health and rumen efficiency by encouraging the growth of beneficial bacteria Biotin added to help improve hoof durability and foot health Whether you’re developing bulls, growing heifers, or maintaining a breeding herd, Right Way Rations provide a safe, effective, and science-backed approach to feeding.
