II. UNBRIDLED IN NATURE

Urban Ecological Sports Park

Individual work:2023.11—2024.9

Foreword

I am a person who hates the constraints of rules, loves life and aspires to art. Art can create a virtual space-time beyond reality by virtue of imagination, establish an experiential relationship between the subject and the object, and bring inner freedom and harmony to people. Landscape design is a profession that can better feel the world, and when doing preproject site research, I can feel the climate, architectural form, culture and

so on in different regions, so I chose this profession.

Everything Lasts Forever - Sea Nomads

In this project I designed an ecological breakwater and retaining wall. With the aim of continuing the Korean intangible cultural heritage of the island's haenyeo (sea maiden) culture, and to solve the ecological problems of the island to satisfy the concept of sustainable development.

The project site is located on Biyangdong, a small volcanic island in South Korea. When you arrive at the Jaejae Beach in the northwest of Hanam Harbour, you can see Flying Island, the name of which means Biyangdong, at a glance.

Haenyeo

Haenyeo are female fishermen who dive for fish, especially those who dive unassisted without the use of rebreathers or other diving equipment.

They are thought to have been widely distributed throughout East and Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia.

2

Problems faced

The average age of a haenyeo is about 65, and fewer and fewer young women are willing to take up this profession. There is also a limit on the number of days of fishing, which is no more than three months a year, to prevent overfishing and the destruction of ecological resources.

Routine

To protect the mollusks, haenyeo can only dive for three hours and cannot use oxygen tanks. They have to stay 5~15 meters under the sea for one and a half minutes, and the captain needs to pay attention to the safety of each haenyeo.

Site status and problem analysis

Although the altitude of Feiyangbong (114m) is not very high, there is still a beautiful view from the top of the mountain, and the summit of Mt. Hanla is within sight, as well as the large and small volcanoes below the mountain, the breathtaking view of the coast, and the dazzling sea bathing area of Jaejae.

Landslides Soil erosion

The steepness of the hills, the loose soil structure and the heavy infiltration of rainwater lead to the creation of landslides.

Due to the increased scouring force of runoff, soil erosion is severe and vegetation is lost.

Axonometric map

Pine, cypress

Under the action of wind and waves, good land is flooded, leading to salinisation of the soil.

Submarine desertification

Excess antibiotics flow into the ocean through wastewater along with residual fish food.

Coastal erosion Work safety hazard

Corals are also more susceptible to bleaching as rising ocean temperatures reduce the amount of algae on which they depend.

Haenyeo builds low walls out of local basalt stones, inside which they keep warm and change clothes.

Cement was poured over the road, a construction method that destroyed the habitat of many species.

The rocks are slippery and uneven, making it very dangerous for haenyeo to walk through with seafood on their backs.

The haenyeo work about 90 days a year, regardless of the season, and spend the rest of the time letting other seafood.

Unbridled In Nature Contradiction in space

In this project I designed an urban ecological sports park, aiming to deconstruct the traditional sports space and meet the new needs of modern citizens for a full range of sports space, life and health, and interpersonal communication.

The site is located on the western edge of the city centre, surrounded by predominantly residential areas, and with a lack of sports theme parks in the western suburbs, residents were in need of a place to relax and have fun.

Environmental problem

The destruction of natural vegetation has led to environmental pollution.

The half-cultivated wasteland is so dusty that cars drive over it and foul the air.

The lack of ventilation in the city exacerbates the heat island effect.

Design strategy and details

The aim of the project is to experience the wildness of nature while walking through it, using the running track to link up different functional areas to form a complete circular route, and with the main road to divide the space suitable for people of all ages to use.

Northwest China is currently dominated by landscape greening seedlings for saline soils with water scarcity and high winds, requiring medium-sized conventional trees that can resist drought, cold, wind and sand, and salinity.

Aoshan Homestay Pavilion

This was a team building project. We designed an outdoor gazebo for visitors and residents to view, move around and rest, with the goal of creating a natural, safe outdoor experience.

Location analysis

The project is located at the foot of Aoshan Mountain, Taibai County, Baoji City, Shaanxi Province. Although the terrain is rugged, the roads are smooth and easy to drive. Surrounding towns, gardens, ski resorts, forest parks for tourists to play and rest.

Wanshu Homestay is located between two mountains, with mountain views from every balcony and courtyard. There are peaks of mountains and white mist. This homestay is a perfect blend of natural scenery and local customs, making it a rare summer resort. It's a quiet, beautiful place away from the hustle and bustle of the

Scheme model

Guests can enjoy fondue and barbecues on the patio, take in the flowers and green hills across the street, and stargaze from the rooftop at night.

In the process of thinking, I insist on the combination of practicality and art. Four schemes are deduced for the purpose of practicability, artistry, communication and leisure.

Plan A is to provide a place for people to rest and interact.

SILVER PERIOD

In recent years, the problem of population ageing in Xi'an has intensified. In the face of a gradually ageing body, ‘no one to accompany them and difficult to take care of them on a daily basis’ are the difficulties faced by the elderly. Due to their busy work schedule and the fast pace of life, children do not have more free time to take care of the elderly on the one hand, and on the other hand, they often neglect the psychological comfort of the elderly.

Fear of stagnation of thought and inability to accept new things.

Elderly people in the digital age can't fit in.

They have no one around to accompany and care for them.

They have to take care of their loved ones on top of their work.

They are in poor health and feel their gradual lack of value.

Suddenly I feel like there is so much to do, I can't get pumped up and I don't want to do it.

1.2025 LOHAS Centre construction begins.

The centre is mainly for three groups: the old, the middle-aged and the young. It helps the elderly to break the limitation of space, provides an environment suitable for the middle-aged to provide recreation, and sets up personalised space for the young people to live smarter.

2.Construction of Open Space Park begins in 2035

The park is mainly a recreational property, aiming to improve people's physical and mental health.

3.Construction of Cultural Park begins in 2040

The cultural park is aimed at people's social needs, and the grey space under the flyover can satisfy this condition.

4.2050 Construction of Botanical Park begins.

China's urban green space is ‘shrinking’ and the city's ecological security is under threat, so sustainable ecological parks are needed.

Smart ageing can fulfil the need to enable the elderly to lead active, noble and healthy lives in old age.

Practice has shown that the value of smart ageing needs to be fully realised with the help of multiple models of ageing.

From the perspective of plant landscape design, the physiological characteristics and needs of the elderly can be adapted and satisfied by creating a suitable microclimate environment, an accessible exercise environment, a stimulating sensory environment and an easily recognisable memory environment.

--Wu Qiong. Research on Plant Landscape Design of Elderly Institutions Based on Physiological and Psychological Characteristics and Needs of the Elderly.2018.Southeast University,MA thesis.

Elderly people living with their adult children are less happy than those living independently with their partners.

The project therefore encourages intergenerational integration, brings people closer together and meets the social needs of the elderly..

Death is not a loss of life, but a departure from time.In the time available, we should not fear death, but rather face the established facts openly and seize the time to pursue inner freedom to fulfil the pursuit of life.
