what is STONEPANEL™? STONEPANEL™ is an innovative cladding
system for walls and facades, suitable for both internal and external application. Individual panels made of natural stone including quartzite, gneiss, limestone, sandstone or slate joined to a cement base that is reinforced with a light metal or fibre glass mesh at the base. Each piece is Z-shaped in order to hide the joints from view. It is very simple to install and doesn’t need specialised labour. STONEPANELTM cladding is the only natural stone preassembled product on the market that is backed by BBA certification and offers installation advantages over traditionally built natural stone. Manufactured in China, we are the sole supplier in the UK and hold stock in the UK at various locations. STONEPANEL SKYTM incorporates a hook in the back to allow for a mechanical fix in addition to the adhesive assuring strength and durability.

To avoid visible joints each panel is Z-shaped, its placement is very simple without the requirement of specialist, skilled labour.
It is suggested to fix back to a masonry substrate with Ardex X7G PLUS up to a height of 2 metres, taking into consideration the guidelines in the BBA, thereafter utilise the mechanical fixability of STONEPANEL SKYTM in conjunction with the adhesive.

The surface being adhered to must be clean, firm and free of dust, dirt, oil, and grease. When fixing to masonry walls it is recommended to allow 6 weeks drying time prior commencement of the cladding, and for the wall and STONEPANELTM pieces to be moist prior to application. The installation of STONEPANELTM must be made using a suitable adhesive applied to both the back of each STONEPANELTM piece and the vertical wall using a 6mm gauge trowel, pressing into place to exclude any voids. STONEPANELTM pieces are laid in a ‘stretcher bond’ application so as to deter vertical joints directly on top of each other. STONEPANELTM can be easily cut on site using an electric grinder or site cutting bench.

/ board A cementitious or proprietary board can be utilised along with Ardex X 7G PLUS adhesive unless the substrate is subject to movement, in which case an elastic polyurethane based adhesive (ie Sikabond T2) can be considered. It is recommended that an engineer approves the weight of wall construction in relation to the support structure. Utilise the mechanical fix ability of STONEPANEL SKYTM in conjunction with the adhesive throughout the application. A minimum 25mm marine ply can be considered for internal use ensuring that it does not get wet and the advise of the adhesive manufacturer sought.

STONEPANEL SKY™ STONEPANEL SKY™ allows you to
install to greater heights. It uses a patented built-in mechanical anchoring system allowing cladding of higher areas, otherwise not possible with adhesive fix alone.
A suitable STONEPANEL™ Clip can be supplied. This is clipped onto the STONEPANEL SKY™ piece before application and fixed with a suitable plug and stainless steel screw. The next piece of STONEPANEL SKY™ is installed on the course above, thus hiding the fixing. For more information on installation, please contact your local Taylor Maxwell office.

Short Corner

To address corners and reveals the following components can be used. Short & Long Corners: These are individual full and half pieces of STONEPANELTM that are faced on end to allow them to ‘marry’ into each other, a long and short corner is required each course. Massive Corners: Purpose made L-shape corners manufactured in three different size options – Small, Medium, Large. Cut & Bonded Corners: A STONEPANELTM piece is cut at a point to ensure impression of the stone continuing through the piece. Set leg sizes cannot be achieved with this although it produces corners with long and short legs.
Short & Long Corners
Window & Door Reveals: Short, Long Corners and Massive Corners can be cut to suit reveals. There are also specialist window reveal componenets available (see components). Curved Facades: Short corners faceted can provide radii down to 3 metres. There are also purpose made curved pieces (See components).

/frequently asked questions What should STONEPANEL™ be fixed to? STONEPANELTMl can be fixed back to brick, block, cementitious board or proprietary board (See use & installation).
How high can I install STONEPANEL™? This depends on the supporting wall (See use & installation). The mechanical fix ability of STONEPANEL SKYTM, in conjunction with the adhesive allows greater heights to be achieved. Referred to in the BBA for an ultimate wind load to be resisted b the system calculated in accordance with BS EN 1991-14:2005 +NA(1) or BS 6399-2:1997.
How quickly can STONEPANEL™ be installed? It is estimated to be up to 10 times faster than traditional random walling. Typically a 2&1 gang can install 20 - 25 square metres per day.
How does STONEPANEL™ turn corners? STONEPANELTM pieces can also be cut and bonded effectively. Special reveal Corners can be used to allow a smooth finish (see components), it is important that any cut smooth ends are not left exposed.
Do I need movement joints? The placement of movement joints would be the decision of the structural engineer. Installation of the STONEPANELTM must respect the location of the movement joints of the building. A flexible sealer is used in any movement joints to avoid the entry of moisture.
Does it need to be pointed? The nature of the STONEPANELTM design means that it does not have to be pointed. However it is a possibility if desired.
How do I clean STONEPANEL™? No chemical products should be used, instead the face should be cleaned using a light power wash with clean water or hand washed with care taken not to draw the adhesive across the face.
Can I improve the thermal insulation of my building and provide a stone finish? Cupa have developed an ETICS system with STONEPANEL SKYTM intended for use as an external insulation for newbuild and renovation. Please contact you local Taylor Maxwell Office.
Is STONEPANEL™ and the adhesive watertight? No, the adhesive is cement based and this allied to the open joint and permeable nature of STONEPANELTM mean it will allow water to pass through which would be managed in the same was as any external leaf construction.
