ESOS What is it? The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is a mandatory scheme in the UK. It will introduce regular energy audits that will highlight energy savings for large organisations. Climate change creates major environmental and economic risk and opportunities for our clients. We believe that ESOS presents a new and significant opportunity for large UK businesses - It’s predicted that ESOS could help deliver savings of nearly £2bn. The complexity of the climate change challenge means that government action alone cannot provide the urgent solutions required; therefore, proactive solutions from business is the key. We believe that ESOS (Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme) has the potential to help deliver significant saving within our industry, and will help our clients reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. In 2012 the European Directive EU 2012/27/EU was drafted- outlining savings agreed by the member states by 2020.
ESOS is the UK’s government approach to implementing article 8 of the EU directive.
Who needs to comply? ESOS is mandatory and applies to all large organisations in the UK, which has either:
250 employees or more OR
a turnover of £38m or more

energy audit Why comply? Penalties The regulator – the Environment Agency - will apply civil penalties against those mandated companies not participating in ESOS or found to be non-compliant with its requirements. Penalties for non-compliance can total £45,000.
Opportunities It’s not too late - With the right partner initial compliance activities can be effectively the very first investment on the path to energy savings and cost reduction by implementing the energy efficiency measures identified.
