A Golden Age at the Majestic in 2022
DECEMBER will be a slightly quieter month for the multi-entertainment powerhouse that Pomona’s Majestic Theatre, home of the silent movie and many other activities, has become.

That’s only because Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on a Saturday this year so the traditional Saturday silent movies won’t be on show these two days.
The Majestic does however have a Christmas special movie offering on Friday December 17 – the two Oscar-winning Holiday Inn (1942), featuring Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire and Marjorie Reynolds (pictured), and featuring the musical score from Irving Berlin.
The plot, as movie reviewer IMBd describes it, is set “at an inn which is only open on holidays, [where] a crooner (Crosby) and a hoofer (Astaire) vie for the affections of a beautiful up-and-coming performer (Reynolds).” It begins at 7.30pm.
“The movie is free for kids and $15 for adults,” Alison said.
The film is a scene-setter for a new addition to the Majestic line-up for 2022, she said.
Tewantin’s ‘Mr Movies’ Aubrey Cannon will be your host for December’s Holiday Inn, along with his hosting a ‘Golden Age of Hollywood’ feature on the evening of every second Friday of the month throughout the year.
Aubrey, who is known for his encyclopedic knowledge of that movie era, will give a short talk prior to each movie, giving the audience an insight into some of the intriguing background into ‘who-didwhat’ regarding the making of each movie, with some surprises in store.
Kicking off the 2022 season, on February 11, the Majestic will feature Witness for the Prosecution (1957), starring Tyrone Power, Marlene Dietrich, Charles Laughton and Elsa Lanchester.
On March 11, you can see In a Lonely Place (1950) starring the inimitable Humphrey Bogart, while on April 8, Rex Harrison and Gene Tierney star in The Ghost and Mrs Muir (1947).
Other Aubrey-chosen classics to follow are: Age of Consent (1969), Mildred Pierce (1945), Double Indemnity (1944), Picnic (1955), The Family Way (1966), I Confess (1953), Butterfield 8 (1960), and finally We’re No Angels (1955).
The live gig program continues from January 2022. Check out the Summer Season on page 39. The Majestic Theatre, 3 Factory St, Pomona. Ph 5485 2330. www.themajestictheatre.com.au

HIGH ENERGY VIBES FOR NEW YEAR’S EVE IN EUMUNDI

THE Imperial Hotel Eumundi will be buzzing with good vibes and killer music this New Year’s Eve, with tickets for the double act performance in The Brewery now on sale – showcasing flamenco-fusion heavyweights KALLIDAD (pictured) and electro wizard CHRISTIAN PATEY.
If you like to dance, you won’t be able to stand still to these two incredible acts. And what better way to say farewell 2021 and hello 2022 than to dance the night away with epic tunes, guitar riffs and cold brews.
KALLIDAD
Kallidad combine Spanish guitar magic with rock and roll energy to create a once in a lifetime sound that has seen the group tour across Europe, Asia and Oceania.
The line-up is two Spanish guitars (Jason Janus and Tomi Gray) and a box drum (Señor Bang Bang) - but don’t let the lightweight set-up fool you. Kallidad’s sound is big. It’s flamenco and mariachi fusing with metal and hard rock!
The trio’s notorious white face paint (inspired by Dias de los Muertos or ‘Day of the Dead’) masks their identities, shifting the focus to a musical style that is alive, intense, emotional, and powerful.
CHRISTIAN PATEY
Producer and electro alt pop artist Christian Patey brings dreamily euphoric sights and sounds to his high energy and 100% fun performances.
Christian brings electric guitar, synths, samples and drums together to illuminate the room and take listeners on an uplifting feel-good journey, backed by Dorah Jacson (Triple J’s Big Pineapple Festival winner) on bass/keys and vocals. TICKETS: Pre-sale only $35 (+ booking fee) through Oztix. 18+ event. Doors open 8pm. N.B. In addition to the ticketed gig in The Brewery, the hotel will have free music in the Beer Garden from 5pm on NYE.
