THE Noosa region has a rich history in hosting endurance sport events, so when destinations were being considered to stage Australia’s newest Ultra-Trail® it was no surprise that the Noosa Hinterland topped the list. The inaugural Noosa Ultra-Trail® will offer six different distance options ranging from 15km to 100km and is a qualifying event for the esteemed Ultra-Trail Mont Blanc (UTMB®) World Series. Australian representative trail runner Kellie Emmerson and three time IRONMAN World Champion Craig ‘Crowie’ Alexander will be taking part which is part of the strategy to encourage more road runners and triathletes to experience the joys of trail running. The natural beauty of the Noosa hinterland region with the combination
of national parks, state forests and forest reserves coupled with rolling hills and farmland offer great variety for trailbased events. One of the great features of the trails which are all ‘runnable’ are the views offered of the lakes, ocean and other mountain peaks from the numerous lookouts scattered along the trails.” “The event is not all about running, it showcases the Noosa lifestyle with organised activities including yoga presented by international yoga and wellness practitioner Kat Harding, river cruises, an ocean swim, sunrise and sunset treks, casual runs with Kellie Emerson and Craig Alexander, and a women’s luncheon curated by celebrity chef, Pomona local resident and trail runner Matt Golinksi.” Noosa Ultra-Trail® March 23-27. www.noosaultratrail.com.au
The importance of regular tyre health checks HAVE you ever wondered how long tyres should last? Manufacturers DO NOT like to give a time frame but most should last 40,000kms + but this depends on how and where you drive your vehicle, everyone drives differently. Having your vehicle inspected regularly will help identify how your tyres are wearing and whether upcoming maintenance is required for your vehicle. The work may not be immediately necessary. However, it will stop you running into any surprises down the road. If you are maintaining your tyres by rotating and balancing every 10,000 km, as per manufacturers instructions, they will last a lot longer by moving them around the car - makes sense doesn’t it? A wheel alignment is a manual adjustment of a vehicle’s suspension system. During an alignment a tyre and auto professional will tweak different suspension components to restore them to their correct setting. Adjusting your car’s suspension system can improve overall handling, prevent issues with steering, and help your tyres last longer. The three main parts that are checked and adjusted during an alignment are: • Camber: The inward or outward tilt of
your tyres when you look front on. • Toe: The inward or outward angle when you view your tyres from above. • Caster: The angle of your steering axis when viewed side on. H OW O F T E N S H O U L D I G E T A WHEEL ALIGNMENT?
Wheel alignments are usually conducted as part of your regular scheduled servicing. But, you should also consider booking in for an alignment if you have: • recently replaced a part of your steering or suspension. • driven over a large bump or experienced a sudden jolt when driving. • been involved in an accident that caused you to jerk your brakes. Some symptoms of misalignment:
• • • • •
squealing tyres. unusual sounds when driving. a pull to the side when steering. tyres wearing down quickly or unevenly. your steering wheel is not centred when you’re driving straight. Misaligned wheels can cause issues with fuel efficiency, increased tyre wear, and impact on safety and handling.
