World Champion Austria Salzburg foreword
Having the highest gross regional product in Austria, with 50,100 euros per capita (2019), is no reason for Salzburg to be complacent. The fact that the economic region is in a good position is proven in terms of added value in relation of 3:1 between services and production. The image of a ‘tourism province’ is put into perspective, given the fact that this sector contributes only around ten percent to the gross regional product. In comparison, the production sector contributes 24 percent. The province’s science and innovation strategy in cooperation with companies and research facilities capitalises on this solid basis and is focusing on future issues such as life sciences, IT, the development of materials as well as the creative industry. The fact that Salzburg is in first place when it comes to broadband access is a central prerequisite for the innovative capability of companies, science and research. We, the people of Salzburg, are realistic enough not to strive for the world championship but are doing everything to make sure we belong to the regional champions in the long term.
