CITY SELECTIONS OBLONG SONG was sent off at odds of 10-3 in a Sandown novice won by Oaks runner-up Emily Upjohn and, though she failed to land a blow, better was clearly expected. The daughter of Nathaniel should find this less taxing and she’s taken to open her account. Atlantis Blue is likely to make her presence felt, but she hung right throughout over C&D in April and that must raise concerns. Maha Dewi is also worth noting.

PLAY SMARTER OBLONG SONG had looked a good prospect for middle-distance events this year when runner-up at Nottingham on her second start, so she can build on her reappearance at Sandown (race won by the Oaks-second Emily Upjohn) to open her account at the third attempt. She can get the better of Atlantis Blue who was runner-up over C&D last time, with the well-bred Fine China the pick of the newcomers.
