Branch AGM

The National office has a system of recording the history and authenticity of a vehicle through the Vehicle Identity Card (VIC)/ Authenticity Statement forms. This system is a great assistance if registering a vehicle where there is no earlier registration and the VIC card is a requirement for all vehicles entering National events such as the 2022 Vero International Festival of Motoring. The VIC card must be renewed every 10 years. Rotorua Branch has two VIC inspectors, Doug Green and Terry Fitzpatrick. Forms sent to National need to be recorded in the committee meeting minutes by the secretary (me). While National keeps a record of the vehicle, the VIC card is personalised to the owner and is cancelled if the vehicle is sold. The new owner needs to apply for a new VIC card. The Committee have just approved the current insurance account of $2,578 for our clubrooms. Thank goodness we don’t live in Wellington where their clubrooms are similar to ours but on a spit where the Hutt River enters the Wellington Harbour and they are over one of the major earthquake faults. Their current insurance cost is $8677 and there is talk of it going to $12,267. Insurance is a big problem in Wellington and for clubs and societies the option of not insuring is untenable as the management committee (Generally Chairman and Secretary) can be held personally liable by the members if there is a total loss. A big incentive not to take on those positions if the insurance is not renewed!!!! I see in town a new Royal Enfield 500cc single cylinder classic style motorbike painted drab brown/green that looks like it has come out of the 1950s. They are made in India and have modern suspension and disc brakes with ABS. Cost new is NZD$9190 which is less than a restored original one from the 50s would sell for today but is far more comfortable and safer to ride according to the owner.
