“I WANT TO MAKE SURE PEOPLE FEEL COMFORTABLE WHEN THEY COME IN TO BLUEPEPPERMINT.”
The new setting for BluePeppermint Boutique is what Owner Jessica Landez always envisioned for her business. Now located at The Yard at Fishers District, the on-trend women’s clothing shop is nestled amidst a variety of shops and eateries. Landez’s relocation comes after several years of experience offering the community both a brick-and-mortar store and online shopping. “As a kid, I loved to shop with my mom,” Landez says. “It was a special time for us. I used to dream about getting locked inside a mall and having to live there. I was also fascinated with cash registers. I loved the OCTOBER 2020
whole experience, from finding something to buy that I really liked, to the connection with people in general.” After a series of jobs unrelated to retail, Landez eventually took the necessary steps to educate herself on running a retail business. “I taught for a year, got my real estate license, married and had a family,” Landez says. “I would think, ‘What would I do if I knew I couldn’t fail?’ The answer was always, ‘Own a boutique.’ But I had no experience in retail and no idea where to begin. Then I got a start by renting a bit of square footage in another Fishers boutique, MJ Layne.”
