Night of Popular Pop Music

Night of Popular Pop Music
Rosanne Fortier - News Correspondent
Around 70 attendees were transported back to the seventies and eighties, when yacht rock/pop was the thing, at A Great Canadian Rock Experience dinner and show hosted by Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 39 on November 1.

The evening started with cocktails and socializing with family and friends. Then everyone enjoyed a roast beef dinner catered by Crave Appetite.
Connie Bay expressed that the meal was fabulous. The beef was flavourful and tender.
Diana Saric said it was a really good supper. “I liked the fact that they had fruit as well. It was a well-balanced and healthy meal. The presentation of the food was good too.”

The band, The Yachty Boys, rocked the stage next, with their polished pop music. Each of their pieces was well-received by the audience.
This group is based out of Edmonton, and the band members are Ken Polansky, Sean Kaminski, Richard Korby, and Chris Bradshaw.

Polansky shared that performing this genre was a natural fit because they grew up with it, and they absolutely love it. “Yacht is light rock and pop. We tried to find very danceable music, to add energy to the night and get the audience moving and dancing.
Right now, yacht rock is huge in the States. Canada is usually five years behind what happens there. But we are trend setters, and wanted to be the first to bring it to Alberta.
Our favorite part of performing is the crowd’s interaction; getting the people going, and watching them have as much fun as we are having.”
