South Georgia & Antarctica EXCLUSIVE PRIVATE FLY-CRUISE

Exploring Antarctica WITH STEPPES TRAVEL

Steppes Travel were one of the first, and remain one of the leading tour operators in Antarctica.

We have an impressive reputation for Antarctica, based on detailed first-hand knowledge and forged long-standing partnerships with the leading small ship operators and Antarctic guides.

Antarctica FLY- CRUISE

If you have a love of wildlife and wild places, a small ship voyage to South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula is the ultimate travel experience.

Nothing quite prepares you for the epic scale or the amazing sense of space. Towering ice cliffs, gigantic glaciers, bergs the size of skyscrapers –little wonder that Roald Amundsen wrote of Antarctica that “the land looks like a fairy-tale”.

Embark on your own Antarctic holiday on our specialist flycruise ship MV Magellan Explorer and discover that Antarctica and South Georgia have never been more accessible.

DEPARTING: 17 th November 2021 17 days | From £13,250pp

Magellan Explorer STATE-OF-THE-ART POLAR CRUISE SHIP

MV Magellan Explorer is the first small passenger ship purpose-built for Antarctica in the last 14 years. She has been designed to carry 100 passengers but our Steppes Travel private charter will be limited to a maximum of 69 clients. With a minimised carbon footprint, including state-of-the-art low emission engines, Magellan Explorer is renowned for its ecocredentials.

The bow of the ship is accessible to guests to offer expansive views during exploration, and there is also a gym and a sauna. Off-ship activities include zodiac cruising and optional activities such as kayaking and snowshoeing.

Magellan Explorer POLAR CRUISING

Polar cruising is about making the most of every opportunity; stopping to see wildlife when it appears and changing the order of landing sites to better suit weather and sea conditions.

The emphasis on our Antarctic cruise is to get you off the ship as much as possible, to get Antarctic snow on your boots. We aim to get you off the ship at least twice a day when not at sea.

Zodiac safaris, hiking, kayaking and polar plunges are all possible on our Antarctic cruise.

Fly - Cruise ITINERARY

Set sail to South Georgia, renowned for its magnificent scenery, rich history and boundless wildlife. For many, it is best known for its part in Shackleton’s extraordinary rescue journey following the loss of the ship Endurance in 1916.

From here, continue south to Elephant Island, known as the temporary home of Ernest Shackleton’s fateful Endurance crew. From here, sail onwards to Antarctica. With towering icebergs and a huge variety of wildlife, the Antarctic has a rich history dating back to the early explorers.

At the end of the epic voyage fly from King George Island in the South Shetland Islands to Punta Arenas in Chile. Fly in around two hours rather than the conventional two-day sail across the idiosyncratic waters of the Drake Passage. This trip will appeal to those wanting to maximise their time, or for those travellers that don’t have the sea-legs for a second crossing of the Drake Passage.

South Georgia

South Georgia is famed for its stunning scenery and spellbinding wildlife. It would be remiss of us to allow you to travel so far south and not visit this spectacular island. In November, you will see the magnificent beachmaster elephant seals, vying for control of their harems. King penguin colonies will be overrun with large, fluffy brown chicks, still reliant on their parents for food while albatross colonies will be heaving with last year’s fledglings as they stretch their mighty wings in preparation for their inaugural flight.

There is no better light in which to see such iconic wildlife than in the early season glow of subAntarctica. South Georgia is not just about the wildlife; a visit to Shackleton’s grave is a poignant reminder of a bygone age of polar exploration while Grytviken whaling station harks back to a less enlightened time.

Antarctic Peninsula

Wild and untamed, the spectacular wilderness of the Antarctic Peninsula is epitomised by places like Paradise Bay and Deception Island. At this time of the year, the peninsula springs into life, following the hostile winter season. Chinstrap, gentoo and Adelie penguins will be congregating at their favourite nesting sites while Weddell seals will be pupping on the ice.

The icescapes are pristine at this time of the year and expect to see expansive sea ice and magnificent icebergs.
