Prior to the monthly meeting, members enjoyed a wonderful Mother’s Day lunch of brisket and side dishes, provided by James Nemec. Thank you, James! There was also a brief trustee meeting. Vice President Don Urbanovsky called the meeting to order at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2022. President Milton Peterson was absent due to medical reasons. The Pledge of Allegiance and SPJST pledge was provided by Quinlan Dobecka. There were 16 adults and one guest in attendance. Secretary Barbara Hykel read the minutes from the April meeting. Lodge 6, Cottonwood picnic will be Sunday, July 17, 2022. Prize drawing tickets will be printed soon. Other projects for hall maintenance and repairs to the lodge’s Westfest booth were discussed. Under new business, Peggy Dobecka announced that the Lodge 6 offer to host the District Three Annual Meeting next year was accepted. April 23, 2023, is the proposed date for this district-wide meeting. Membership present look forward to hosting. A special presentation was made to Dorothy Kucera. Don Urbanovsky presented her with a plaque honoring her 13 plus years of service as reporter of Lodge 6 activities. Dorothy, thank you for your hard work and the memories that were recorded in the Vestnik publications as well as the Lodge 6 scrapbook of pictures and articles. May birthdays are Lou Blahuta and Jeanette Beseda. The progressive door prize ticket drawn was Beverly Soukup, not present. Attendance door prizes were given to Bobby Dobecka, Don Urbanovsky, and Patti Rosales.
Lodge 17, New Tabor honors longtime members Lodge 17, New Tabor held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, May 1, 2022. We hosted a luncheon before the meeting honoring our 50- and 75-year members. Two recipients, Alvin Bormann and Fred Surovik, were present for the meal and presentation. A delicious meal was provided by the lodge. After lunch, the meeting was called to order by President Randy Gaas with all officers present. Secretary Betty Suehs read the minutes from the April meeting. They were approved as read. She also read correspondence from the Home Office which included one new member, Kolter Plachy. She also received a letter letting us know that four members are receiving SPJST scholarships—Macy Narro, Kadie Hartman, Weston Beasley, and Whitney Hodges. All of these members are graduating from Caldwell High School. Congratulations to all!

Next Meeting—June 3 The next Lodge 6 meeting will be Sunday, June 5 at 2 p.m. A Friday social at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 10 will include a Father’s Day meal, trustee meeting and a work project for the upcoming picnic. Lodge 8, Weimar meets May 23 Lodge 8, Weimar will meet Monday, May 23, 2022, at 12 noon at Oakridge Smokehouse in Schulenburg. Lodge 6, Cottonwood Treasurer/ Youth Club Leader Peggy Dobecka and husband Bobby celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Lodge 6 hall on Saturday, April 30, 2022.
