E ditor’s N ote S
eems like just yesterday we were outside playing in the snow and here we are already in July with our usual summer thunderstorms, heat and humidity, and flying insects that bite. But there’s still nowhere I’d rather be! This month I got to tag along with the South Carolina DNR as we got up close and personal with sharks in Bulls Bay, just north of Charleston. It was an awesome trip and I learned a lot – I’m also looking forward to going back at some point to explore the Cape Romain Wildlife Refuge (including the lighthouse and Bulls Island) for a destination-style article. You can read more about sharks in Did You Know? on page 13, and in the SCDNR Logbook article, starting on page 14. Also in this issue is notice of our third annual Best of the Coast survey. It’s time to cast your vote for your favorite dockside dining locale, marina, boat Captain, and more! Results will be posted in the September 3rd Anniversary issue. Good luck to all! For those of you in the marine industry, the Georgia Marine Business Association (GAMBA) is hosting a marine industry social on Thursday, July 26, at Thunderbolt Marine. There’s no cover charge, but you must RSVP to attend so your name can be left at the gate and so we’ll have enough food and booze to go around. See the information on page 20 and let me know if you can make it. It wasn’t all work this month – I took a day off with Todd to celebrate his birthday, too! (He’s OLD now!) We rode down to Jekyll and spent a couple hours on Driftwood Beach, then did a little day drinking as we explored the rest of the island. It was so great having a day off and we vowed to make more time for fun – next step is to get the boat running and back in the water. We’ll be taking it to Hale Marine to make that happen. Hope you’re all having a wonderful summer and getting out on the water as much as possible! See you out there!
