Goals for School Improvement

SAS recently completed reaccreditation with the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS).

The multi-year process began with a thorough report of how SAS meets hundreds of SAIS-required standards and indicators related to mission, leadership, academics, and communication. Simultaneously to this, administrators and faculty established teams to conduct a deep self-study and develop Goals for School Improvement, which build on the school's 2018-21 Strategic Plan.

With input from students, parents, faculty, and alumni, the faculty teams developed a road map for ongoing school improvement.

In early November, a team of educators visited the school to review the school report, see our school in action, and speak with students, parents, alumni, faculty, and staff.

The identified Goals for School Improvement, articulated in the school report, form the basis for our work moving forward.

Capitalize on Our Unique Geographic Assets

Capitalize on our unique geographic assets by investing in and promoting place-based learning, outdoor education, and opportunities for outdoor adventure on and near our campus.

• Commit to longterm programming and staff support • Invest in improved infrastructure and facilities • Expand place-based and outdoor education opportunities

Develop Wellness through Perspective, Service, and Community Engagement

Cultivate lives of balance and joy by developing spiritual, emotional, social, and physical wellness through perspective, service, and community engagement.

• Provide meaningful opportunities to cultivate spiritual, emotional, social, and physical wellness in daily life • Encourage activities and interactions that cultivate love and empathy and strengthen our bonds to one another • Support students and faculty in gaining and sharing knowledge and experiences through activities that connect them to people and communities beyond our campus • Strengthen and expand opportunities for loving service and broader community engagement

Evaluate and Revise the Daily Schedule

Create a daily schedule that offers students opportunities for challenge, balance, and joy.

• Value community time • Recognize the need for intentional opportunities for individualized help • Determine the optimal student-faculty contact time by discipline and grade level • Foster opportunities for collaborative and interdisciplinary studies • Encourage opportunities for faculty interaction • Alleviate the stress of the Monday schedule
