Plenty RECREATION of

Situated along the peaceful Yahara River, Stoughton provides numerous opportunities to enjoy the beautiful scenery of southwest Wisconsin. From hitting the trails on foot or bike, to gliding along the river in a canoe, Stoughton has a wide range of outdoor activities. While visiting Stoughton, you are never very far from a park or recreational area. There are over 100 acres of park space in the Stoughton area, and each area has something unique to offer. Pack a lunch with friends or family and have a picnic, hit the basketball and volleyball courts, play disc golf, go swimming and ice skating, or test your skills on the BMX Bike and skate parks to take advantage of Stoughton’s range of park activities. Some of Stoughton’s most popular recreational activities occur on water. The beautiful Yahara River flows from Lake Kegonsa directly through this historic community. During a typical day on the waters of Stoughton, you might see people gliding along the Yahara River in a canoe, fishing from a bridge or pier, birding, taking a swim in the lake or ice fishing in winter. Lake Kegonsa is also a popular place to rent a boat, canoe, sail, water ski and Jet Ski. No matter what activity you choose, it is easy to enjoy the natural beauty of Stoughton while on the water. Mandt Community Center hosts open skate ice time during hockey season. When winter allows, the Parks and Recreation Department creates an outdoor rink at Norse Park, with a warming house that opens in the evenings. Winter fun doesn’t end there! Lake Kegonsa State Park’s trails are open for cross country skiing when conditions allow. The Stoughton Chamber of Commerce has information about walking trails, golf courses, parks, events, you name it! The outdoor enthusiast doesn’t have to look hard to find a great time!
