Living Our Values

Gathering in Sisterhood Leads to Meaningful Impact

In Pi Beta Phi, we deeply cherish the values of community and togetherness. From chapter-specific events and traditions to collaboration opportunities with members across North America, there is no replacement for being together with our sisters. As Indiana Epsilon continues into the Fall 2024 term, we look forward to the abundance of opportunities it will bring.

Returning to campus is always a special time filled with excitement and gratitude. Some of my favorite

memories at Indiana Epsilon have been made on our first few days back on campus. Seeing everyone after a long summer of work and internships is so fulfilling.

Being together on campus not only allows us to foster genuine connection and Sincere Friendship, but also provides the opportunity for community engagement. As Pi Phis, we embrace our mission to enrich lives through community service. Giving back is at the core of who we are, and Indiana Epsilon is

dedicated to fulfilling this vision for our sisterhood.

At Indiana Epsilon, there are many opportunities to engage with our community in purposeful ways.

The Fall 2024 term is especially meaningful; our chapter is looking forward to hosting our first ever Wing Ching philanthropic event and starting new traditions as a chapter! During the process of hosting this event, we’ve worked closely with our university’s facilities department, our local community and other fraternity/sorority life organizations on campus. The development of these close partnerships embodies our commitment to Personal and Intellectual Growth and our dedication to Philanthropic Service to Others.

The Fall 2024 term looks promising at Indiana Epsilon, and as Vice President Community Relations, I’m honored to keep witnessing Pi Phi’s commitment to bettering the lives of our sisters and community members. Nothing fills our hearts with more Pi Phi Pride than authentically living the values of our sisterhood.

Remember Where You Came From

As a new member of Indiana Epsilon’s Alumnae Advisory Committee (AAC) as the Finance/Housing Advisor, EMMA VEON has already found fulfillment, purpose and connection in her volunteer life. Read more about her Pi Phi story and what inspires her to stay involved.

WHAT DREW YOU TO PI PHI DURING RECRUITMENT?

I felt the connections I had made were very genuine—the women that made up the chapter were unique, fun-loving and driven.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PI PHI MEMORY?

Having a sleepover the night before initiation with some of my member class sisters, they are still friends of mine to this day!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT ALUMNAE LIFE SO FAR?

Seeing the beautiful lives all my sisters have created for themselves since graduation, both professionally and personally.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO VOLUNTEER FOR PI PHI?

One of my closest friends began volunteering for our chapter’s AAC during the previous year and spoke very highly about her experience reconnecting with alumnae as well as the collegiate members.

HOW HAVE YOUR LEADERSHIP ROLES SHAPED YOU?

The two leadership positions I have held with Pi Phi between my time as a collegian and as an alumna have been great learning and development experiences for me, especially in the areas of communication, organization, planning and asking for help when

needed without being embarrassed. It’s very empowering to accomplish unfamiliar tasks and work towards a common goal with kind and energized people.

WHAT’S THE MOST CHALLENGING AND REWARDING PART ABOUT SERVING PI PHI?

The most challenging part is the majority of our AAC is remote, so we are not able to connect in person as often as we would like, but it is so rewarding to have perspective from many different women in different stages of life!

HOW HAS PI PHI MADE AN IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE?

Pi Phi has brought me some of the strongest friendships I have ever had and has taught me about personal responsibility, leadership, advocacy and community.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT OUR SISTERHOOD?

I love how diverse and strong-minded Pi Phi women are, and that there is always someone willing to lend a hand if called upon.

AS A PI PHI VOLUNTEER YOURSELF, WHY DO YOU THINK VOLUNTEERING FOR OUR SISTERHOOD IS SO IMPORTANT?

It’s an excellent opportunity to reconnect to the values that were

instilled in us as collegiate members. Life can be so hectic as an adult that it’s easy to not make the time to give back, but volunteering with Pi Phi has given me that opportunity. It’s also allowed me to foster community and mentorship with the collegiate women in my chapter. It’s important to always remember where you come from and how you got where you are now.

Facility Update

Indiana Epsilon had a busy summer! Alumnae from the 1984 New Member Class rented the facility for a weekend to celebrate their 40 th anniversary reunion, and shared, “Spending the weekend together under one roof felt like a form of time travel that rejuvenated our sisterhood.” They brought Pi Phi clothing from the 1980s to share with collegiate members, found their composite and one alumna found pictures of her mother that she hadn’t previously seen in chapter archives.

The chapter facility also received new ceilings in the dining room and kitchen serving area and updated landscaping. Members have moved in and are excited for another terrific year!

Empowering the Next Generation of Pi Phis

Your $45 international alumnae dues power the programs that define the Pi Phi member experience, from leadership events to personal development opportunities and the volunteer and staff support that helps chapters grow. You can shape the future of our sisterhood by paying your annual alumnae dues at pibetaphi.org/dues
