With a PhD in Astrophysics and over 20 years of data science experience, Alan Payne has relocated from Brisbane to Townsville to take the position as Principal Data Scientist at Queensland Country Bank.

This newly created position will enable Queensland Country to continue to improve and enhance data management practices and stay abreast of technology advancements to deliver on their service promise to Members.

MITEZ Welcomes New CEO

MITEZ, the peak regional development body for Northwest Queensland, has appointed Maria James as their new CEO. Maria joins MITEZ after more than a decade at Port of Townsville and will work together with the MITEZ Board, members and staff, to collectively achieve strong economic growth outcomes for the region from Townsville to Mount Isa.

Local Voice for Small Business

Congratulations to Gerard Byrne from Townsville Consulting Services who has been appointed to the Queensland Small Business Advisory Council. The Advisory Council will work with the Minister for Employment and Small Business and the Queensland Government to provide advice and suggest changes to ensure small businesses are supported to start, grow and thrive.

JCU's New Deputy Chancellor

Small business growth expert and author of Big Little Business, Jayne Arlett, has been appointed Deputy Chancellor JCU.

Jayne was first appointed to the JCU Council in 2018 and in her new position will take on a larger governance and strategic role at the university.

SeaLink has taken delivery of its new 350 passenger vessel for its Magnetic Island service. It is one of five new vessels constructed in Queensland as part of a $23m investment.
