THE GOOD NEWS FROM FOOTBALL’S TOUCH LOSS
The Good News From Football’s Tough Loss
Although the Wildcats did not come out on top, there were many highlights that the team should be proud of.

Saturday’s football game did not go as planned. The fi nal score was 7-64. Although the score did not favor Westminster, the Wildcats have a lot to look forward to this season and there are many good takeaways.
Firstly, the underclassmen looked very promising. Sophomore Nick Lowry played a great game at cornerback. He blocked two fi eld goal attempts, had crucial pass defl ections, and he had a couple of substantial punts. Nick puts a lot of effort on and off the fi eld. You might even see Nick punting during lunch.
Secondly, Junior, Shepherd Nye played a solid passing game. He had a couple deep throws to Colby Alpert, and a touchdown pass to Caden Collison. Shep had many athletic throws, and used his mobility to evade rushers. Shep showed he has potential to be great this season.
Furthermore, the offensive line for the Cats did a great job of creating space for Shep. They didn’t allow many sacks and gave Shep some time in the pocket.

Photo by: Mia Scheulen Early in the game, running back Joshua Avery took a hit and the team needed someone to step up for the rest of the game. Chris Heard had a good game for the Wildcats and we look forward to seeing him continue to rush later in the season.
The defense was a sore spot on Saturday, but Ridley Jowdy had a solid game. Beau Dolen, the Ladue quarterback, is a solid passer and an even better scrambler. He used his agility to drive down the fi eld against our defense, but Jody had a few good tackles and an interception later in the game.
While the Rams offensive line was good, Joe Anderson was able to break through multiple times which led to pressure on the Ladue quarterback and a few sacks.
The Ladue Rams have always been tough to beat and this year they were as good as ever, but the Wildcats look forward to the games ahead. It is a long season and the Cats will look to capitalize when they play Clayton this Friday at Clayton.
Last year the Wildcats thrashed Clayton winning 42-0. Shep threw for over a hundred yards highlighted by a 65 yard touchdown pass to Caden Collison.
We hope to see many Wildcat fans at the game this week for Westminster fi rst Friday night lights of the 2022-2023 season.
