Biz: What's New - Community

SOLAR SPARKS

The students in East Jordan middle school’s Shoe Club surpassed their audacious goal of raising $70,000 to install a 30 kiloWatt solar array on the school’s roof! The array powered up on Earth Day, April 22, 2021. The benefits of this array include: saving the school money, education about renewable energy, exposing students to careers in clean energy, as well many benefits to the environment. The life span of the array is 25-30 years. This is the largest student-led solar installation that we are aware of in northern Michigan. "Dreaming big, setting goals, working hard and giving back is a central purpose of the Shoe Club,” explains teacher and club coach Matt Hamilton. This project would not have been possible without the incredible support from the community.

This $2.2M Community Development Block Grant project includes a pedestrian boardwalk featuring pavilions and a fishing deck that will connect the main pier of the City Marina on the east side of Lake Charlevoix to the new pocket park on the west side. The Waterfront Pocket Park will serve as an anchor on the west side of Lake Charlevoix and the mouth of the Jordan River. There will also be updates to the M-32 bridge corridor creating a safer shared-use options for crossing the Jordan River factoring in vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians, and snowmobiles.

JOINING JORDAN

Jordan Art Walk

This year, strategically placed statues will be added to the East Jordan landscape to stay for years to come, as part of the Jordan Art Walk exhibit.

The goal is to integrate works of art into the city’s natural environment that will engage and resonate with citizens and visitors. This is a collaborative project of the City of East Jordan, the East Jordan Area Chamber of Commerce, the Friends of the Jordan and the Jordan River Arts Council.
