ON THE COVER Two iconic fixtures in downtown San Antonio, “La Antorcha de la Amistad” (Spanish for “The Torch of Friendship”) and the Tower of the Americas, serve as beacons greeting visitors and locals alike. The Torch of Friendship is an abstract sculpture by Mexican artist Sebastián and was presented as a gift from the Mexican government to The City of San Antonio in 2002. The Tower of the Americas is one of the tallest observation towers in the U.S. and was designed by local architect O’Neill Ford for the 1968 World’s Fair in San Antonio, known as HemisFair ’68.
