Who Helped The Dogs Out? Katie Alldritt Erdin Schultz-Bever Mariah Seifert Us ... us, us, us! In this team-up with Lawrence Humane Society, come study the wonderful qualities of our canine companions and then make some doggone art. We’ll make toys and collars for both our own pets and dogs in need at the Humane Society. Explore how dogs, and their wolf ancestors, move through performance, dance, and puppetry. With all this newfound knowledge we’ll make PSAs, pet portraits, and an event to help hounds find homes.

Sculpture Engineers Katie Swan Leah Towle Katie Alldritt Mariah Seifert Spend a week using applied engineering to build a variety of sculptures both outside and in an art studio. The Lawrence Arts Center is collaborating with City Playcorps’ Adventure Playground to help students design within parameters, create ephemeral and lasting sculptures, and utilize collaboration and critical thinking to build works of their own choice. Each day will focus on a shared Physics/Art principle in order to explore the many ways of engineering sculptures; build your essential 3D language as we focus on Material, Mass, Space, Center of Gravity, and Movement. Engineers in age groups will split time outside practicing and learning through creative play.

Box City Tokyo Alicia Kelly Erdin Schultz-Bever Traci Bunkers Katie Alldritt Konnichi wa, Tokyo! Explore the long cultural history and architectural beauty of Japan while planning, designing, and engineering a kid-sized, cardboard box metropolis. Students apply their imaginations to fill in the city with artwork, culture, and function. Using Tokyo as an example, we will look at urban planning and design and how it shapes the world we live in. Students gain an appreciation for shape, form, and proportion as they apply these principles to their expanding city.
