TIMELINE In order to ensure a thoughtful application process, the university advising office recommends students follow this general timeline. This plan may vary with students’ unique university plans, so make sure you discuss your personal timeline with your university advisor.
• Update the extra-curricular activities in Maia. • Prepare for fall testing (if needed). • Relax. Senior Year (G12) September-November
Second Semester, Junior Year (G11) • Attend individual meetings with your university advisor. • Update your Resume of Activities in MaiaLeaning. • Develop a standardized testing plan with your university advisor and register for the SAT, ACT, IELTS, etc. (if required). • Ask two teachers if they will be able to write you a positive letter of rec (most universities require two letters of rec). • After a teacher has verbally agreed to write a letter of recommendation and you have given the teacher the “Orange” form, fill out the “Teacher Rec Survey” and have it approved by your university advisor. • Research and add universities to your “Considering List” in Maia. • Complete the “Jedi Survey” for your university advisor’s letter of rec. • Attend the mandatory weekly “Student Success” classes in your schedule and actively participate in the activities. • Attend in-person university visits to LAS. • Take virtual tours of universities and attend virtual information sessions. Summer Before Grade 12 • Visit university campuses in-person (if possible) and/or virtually. • Research schools of interest. • Brainstorm responses to Common App essay prompts & write a 1st draft. • Create and fill out Common App info. • Create and fill out the UCAS application per step-by-step presentation. • Write a 1st draft of your Personal Statement.
• Meet with your university advisor. • Update your list of universities in Maia. • Register for any additional standardized tests you would like to take in the fall of senior year. • Explore admissions websites for the schools you are considering and check their admission requirements. • Create application accounts (such as the Common App, UCAS, school-specific applications, etc. if not already done) and work on your applications. • If you are using the Common App, match your Common App and Maia accounts. • If you will be applying to Oxford, Cambridge, or medical/dental/veterinary programs in the UK, submit your UCAS applications by October 1st. • Continue to draft other university essays. • By mid-September notify your university advisor if you will be applying to an Early Decision (ED), Early Action (EA), or other universities with October 1, November 1, or November 15 deadlines. • Submit Application Notification Forms (ANFs) to your university advisor by the internal deadlines. • Check the TV screens, your emails, and “Visits” under Events in Maia for the list of university reps that will be visiting LAS, and meet with those reps when they are here. • Keep your university advisor up-to-date on your plans. • Consult financial aid requirements and deadlines for each school to which you are considering applying. These deadlines may differ from university application deadlines. • Complete applications.
