Swimming under the stars in Dubai
The innovative city has gone to great lengths to create well-lit and well-equipped beaches for night swimming. Jal Patel picks some of the best places for a dip after dark.
In Dubai, anything is possible. Night swimming has been a feature of the city since 2023, when Umm Suqeim Beach offered the unique experience. More late swims followed, giving Emiratis the opportunity to get together after work and when the heat of the day was over. The ideal season for night swimming is between the milder months of March, April, May, August, September, and October, when the evening weather is not too hot or too cold. Here are a few of the options you could consider the next time you are in Dubai.
Al Mamzar Beach Park
It is an excellent choice for budget-conscious families. Featuring barbecue areas and child-friendly facilities, Al Mamzar Beach Park provides the perfect setting for a family outing. As with all night beaches in Dubai, the park is well-lit, with lifeguards and smart services monitoring the area for added safety. Recently, Al Mamzar Corniche Beach introduced a women-only night swimming area. The park also offers various recreational activities, including roller skating, biking, basketball, and soccer, as well as scenic trains and an observation tower.
