Howe's defense kept making plays to keep the Dogs in the game Sophomore safety Jordan Jones picked off a Zach Talley pass as Devin Porter pressured the quarterback to make an errant throw Howe tried the throw the ball in the mud also, but quarterback Layton Elvington's pass was also intercepted by Shope

Bulldog Stadium was unforgiving in the second quarter as Cardinal running back Will Cates fumbled to give Howe the ball at their own 38 yard line with 7:33 remaining in the half, but once again, Howe was forced to punt

Howe got another turnover when Thornton picked off a Talley pass to set up the Bulldogs with great field position at the Pottsboro 47 yard line But the Cardinals defense forced Howe to punt for the sixth time (Howe punted nine of the 12 possessions)

Both teams punted on their next possessions and Howe's defense held Pottsboro to only 5 total yards in the second quarter

However, the Bulldog offense only gained 6 yards in the second The halftime score was 14-0

Howe gained momentum in the third quarter as things got heated between coaches, players, officials, and fans. Personal fouls on each side began a kicking and stomping session by Pottsboro Head Coach Matt Poe Will Cates of Pottsboro was ejected after a late hit on Bryce Krantz. The Howe crowd finally became energized and gave the Dogs a boost to go on a 10-play drive that took nearly five minutes off the clock. Howe running back Caiden Harmon gave a spark to the Howe offense as he squirted free on several occasions However, a fourth and one conversion attempt run by Joseph Brennan was turned away and Pottsboro took the ball at their own 33 yard line The Cardinals ended up driving 11 plays and 67 yards before Shope scored again, this time from 14 yards with 8:13 remaining in the game The PAT was no good and Pottsboro led 20-0

The enrollment advantage seems to always rear its ugly head late in the game for the Bulldogs especially as injuries left only 20 players remaining for Howe late in the game Pottsboro took advantage of their beefy and fresh roster and scored again with 4:56 remaining in the game Talley, at running back for Cates, scored on a 13-yard run to end a 4-play, 31yard drive and give the Cardinals a 27-0 lead which became the final score

Howe will travel to Lone Oak on Friday night The Buffaloes are coming off a 38-24 loss to Van Alstyne and are 3-3 overall and 11 in district play Their win came against Commerce, 52-45 at home The Buffaloes have a natural grass field and rain is expected for Friday night
