Howe's That
The Howe Lions Club is selling raffle tickets for an AR-15 rifle Tickets are $10 each or six for $50 They can be purchased at the Howe Development Alliance and Howe Area Chamber of Commerce office in Downtown Howe
America is in the advanced stages of a moral and cultural rot The country is $19 trillion in debt and spending its way to financial oblivion just as we are eating our way to oblivion with a 43 percent obesity rate We have seen a 40 percent increase in illegal immigration since 2014 In the U S alone, more than 15 million people abuse prescription drugs, more than the combined number of people who reportedly abuse cocaine, hallucinogens, inhalants and heroin If the war on drugs cannot be won, what are the odds of turning away ISIS?
Violence, prescription drug abuse, the sedentary lifestyle, and suicide have all become epidemic in American society U S politicians are mired in scandals and corruption
The democratic process is in serious trouble, as seen from all of the partisan infighting in our presidential race Millennials are not feeling the need to vote beacuse they think their vote will not matter But they'll quickly spend $0 99 to vote for their favorite American Idol contestant Research Center finds that the percentage of adults (ages 18 and older) who describe themselves as Christians has dropped by nearly eight percentage points in just seven years
Over the same period, the percentage of Americans who are religiously unaffiliated - describing themselves as atheist, agnostic or "nothing in particular" has jumped from 16 1 percent to 22 8 percent The U S is beginning to look more and more like ancient Rome before it collapsed
Fall Festival fun for all
Spanning five decades now, the event is the largest gathering of year for people that identify Howe as their home Saturday night was the 30th consecutive year that Howe's Fall Festival has taken on the parking lot of Charles R Thompson
Gymnasium Prior to that, it was held in Downtown Howe and started in 1977
The festival is the fundraiser for each school's class as well as other interested outside organizations
"I would like to thank the community for their support of our annual festival " said Howe Elementary Principal Clarissia Doty "It brings me joy to see everyone join together and have a great time A true testimony of our community spirit "
A lot of money was raised at the event which will not officially been tallied until Monday morning In 2014, the amount was over $17,000 which was distributed to each organization
Marching Band receives all ones at regional competition
Last week, the Howe High School Marching Band competed against larger school bands in a competition at Princeton This week, they went back to Princeton for a competition and scored all ones which is the perfect score
"Being on the same field made it less scary and less intimidating for the kids " said Band Director Angie Liss
Competing against the
standards, several other schools also received all ones such as Van Alstyne, Whitsboro, Farmersville, and Whitewright
"They (the judges) were very complimentary of our marching " said Liss "We heard some really good compliments Our marching has been really solid all year"
This is the last competition for the band this year who ended on a great note
The old saying goes, "a really good run game can be the defense's best friend " That may have never been more evident than on Friday night at Bulldogs Stadium when Howe (5-3, 1-2) took down Whitesboro (2-6, 1-2), 28-17 It's hard to score when you don't have the ball and the Bulldogs played keep away by controlling possession of the ball for 33:53 of the 48 minutes of the game Granted, part of that equation is due to the fact that the Bearcats scored quickly when they did put together scoring drives, but nonetheless, the much needed opportunities to score were not there for Whitesboro thanks in part to continued on page 3

City makes no Halloween declaration - Oct. 31 it is

Howe will have a Harvest Fest on their parking lot on Denny Street It will feature a Trunk 'R Treat and many games

Dogs
continued from page 1 two back breaking drives by the Bulldogs - one in each half In the first quarter, Howe put together a 13 play, 86 yard drive that lasted for 6:39 and ended in a touchdown In the second half, the 'Dogs put the final nail in the Whitesboro coffin with a 16 play, 66 yard drive that took a ridiculous 7:40 seconds off of the third and fourth quarter clock and Tyler Grisham plunged over for a 2-yard touchdown To put it in perspective, Howe was leading only 21-17 when they took possession with 3:11 in the third quarter. By the time the Bulldogs gave it back, they were up by two scores, 28-17 and left only 7:31 to go in the entire game Whitesboro was forced to do things they didn't want to do and threw an interception to Cooper Akins that eliminated any hope for a win for the Bearcats
Howe, who came into the game 0-2 in district play and backs up against the wall, quickly found themselves under even more stress when Whitesboro's lightning quick slot back Noah Griesen went 39 yards for the game's initial score The Bearcats held a 7-0 lead after the PAT by Cayden Cobb The drive took only :38 off the clock.
Howe's initial drive took nearly five minutes off the clock, but ended on a punt that went off the side of the foot of Brandon Wall However, the Bearcats were forced to punt as well
That's when Howe started the first half massive drive from their own 14 yard line with 5:51 on the first quarter clock They ran out the first quarter and on the first play of the second quarter, Howe's quarterback Wall made a tremendous play fake and kept the ball around the right end to score from 24 yards out That play fake may have very well sprung life back into the Howe Bulldogs as they tied the game, 7-7 after Brice Honaker's first of four successful PATs on the night
Whitesboro, a good football team having played a tough schedule, answered right back with a 2-play, 66 yard drive that took only 1:03 off the clock Bradley Klingler scored from the six yard line after being set up by a long run by Scout Sanders Whitesboro regained the lead, 14-7

After Cobb's kickoff went into the endzone, Howe started from their own 25 yard line The end result was an 8-play, 75 yard drive that ended on a 1-yard touchdown by Grisham Howe tied it back up at 14 with 6:58 left before half
The Bulldogs defense gave the offense a boost at the end of Whitesboro's next possession when Bearcats punter Cobb was forced to run due to pressure from the right side of the defense The end result was Howe having the ball at their own 36 yard line instead of trapped deep by a punt continued on page 5
