THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE

PLAN TO

SUCCEED

E

ach year, around this time, our magazine goes through the process of developing business plans for the following year. We talk about what went well the current year, and what we want to improve upon in the next year. A large part of our success is in this process. It is important that we take a step back from our daily duties of producing the magazine and website and assess our products and priorities. Contractors and dealers should take the same course of action and find the time away from their daily operations to evaluate their people, policies, and procedures. GIE+EXPO 2021 is on schedule for Oct. 20-22 in Louisville, KY. After a year away, it is a great event to attend for gathering ideas to use in your business planning. For dealers, the floor is open for you to talk business with distributors and manufacturers without the presence of contractors 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20. There are also specific educational opportunities for dealers as well through Bob Clements International, including a discussion on bulletproofing your business. Beyond dealers, the show also will

feature a Technology Summit for in-depth discussions on robotics and connectivity. Additional workshops will include focuses on irrigation, website use, estimating hardscape projects, marketing and much more. Attendees will have an opportunity for a hands-on demonstration of drone use as one of many direct opportunities to get behind the controls of the equipment. For the first time ever, there will be a UTV test track as part of the outdoor demonstration area. To learn more about some of the highlights of the show see the GIE+EXPO show preview on page 8. Whether it is through industry trade shows such as GIE+EXPO or publications like ours, it is important that you make the time to educate yourself on better business practices. As the industry evolves, improving your education will help you to better plan for the challenges ahead. Take what you learn and implement it in your own business plan.
