That Special Place

by Zebbie Brewster
Ijust picked up my phone charger and walked and put it back up where it belongs. I find that is easier for when I need it the next time. How important is it for every thing to be in it’s place? I remember years ago that I helped my mother-in-law wash her Sunday dinner dishes. I always told her that was the least I could do for all that hard work she put into that wonderful meal she had just put on the table. Later that evening she called asking me where I had put up something I had dried for her. It was not in it’s regular place. After much thought, I remembered where I had put it. I was thankful that I did, as many times I don’t remember where I put things. It is a time waster for sure and it makes your frustration level go very high.
My Mom reminds me to live in the moment, not taking things for granted. She just celebrated her 82nd Birthday and often times when I am visiting her she will tell me about things that happened to her when she was younger. I am still amazed that I hear stories that I don’t remember hearing before. The memory comes to her just like it happened yesterday. My Mom always asks me to pray for her. She says that the Good Lord is taking care of her and I believe without a doubt He is. When People ask me how is your Mom? I say that God is taking care of her and she appreciates your prayers.
I have her Sunday school book I am reading from 2011. The lessons were out of Proverbs and on the importance of wisdom. I am so encouraged to read it again and see all the places she has underlined. That is a big deal as she was recuperating from shoulder surgery at the time. Amidst all her pain she found encouragement and comfort in God’s Word. She knew that the most important thing to keep in it’s
place is her faith in God. I thank God for her great example to me.
Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.”
God wants to be first in your life. In honoring Him, everything else in your life will fall into place. Praying you honor God as He also loves and cares for you. Without a doubt my mom is a great example of His faithfulness.

Embrace Grace, And Give A Little Too
by Heather Tate
For those who know me and have worked with me over the years, they know I am harder on myself than almost anyone else—well, my kids might think otherwise, but I am hard on myself. I tend to be overly critical and harsh. I easily get disappointed with myself when I would praise anyone else. I also know a lot of others who do the same. Why must we be harder on ourselves? This Thanksgiving season, I would like to encourage you to embrace grace and give a little grace too.
Grace is one of the gifts God gives us that we cannot earn. He gives us grace out of love so that we might show grace to others. 1 Peter 4:10 tells us, “Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve others, as good stewards of the varied grace of God.” I believe we need to embrace the grace God gives us! Embracing God’s grace allows us to flourish where we may otherwise be critical or harsh with ourselves and others. Ask God to help you give yourself some grace; then, as God gives us grace, allow God’s grace to work through you.
Give grace to others as well. I try to encourage my children to think about the consequences of their actions. We can do the same when considering the consequences of showing grace to others. I can show grace to others during this season of Thanksgiving in many ways. When we give grace to others, we can share God’s love through our actions. I can show grace in the way I greet people with a smile; when I show kindness in situations where others may not deserve it; or in loving or responding to my children each day. We can show grace as an act of love, not to receive something in return but to give a gift that encourages others.
In challenging times, we must embrace grace, for that is when God’s grace can shine through us. In 2 Corinthians 12:9, we learn that God’s grace is sufficient for us! In every
season of life, if we trust Him and lean into Him, His grace is enough. Even in times when we have doubts, His grace remains sufficient. When we are weak, He is strong. Christ’s power is made perfect in our weaknesses.
I encourage you to embrace God’s grace for yourself and give grace to others. We all need a little grace and encouragement. This gift of grace cost us nothing and is priceless in how it can make a difference in the life of another. I hope you will join me as I try to embrace grace and give it freely this holiday season.
