Tell Them of Jesus

In Hebrews Chapter 7, we find God’s truth revealed to us that we now have a High Priest who reigns forever, who is Jesus Christ. Unlike the priests of old, He does not need to first offer a sacrifice for himself and then for the people, but has once and for all provided Himself as the sacrifice for the sins of the world. He accomplished what no one else could, and that is to pay the sin debt we owed because He is the perfect lamb provided by God the Father. Hebrews 7:25 says, “Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them” (NKJV). Let’s consider the amazing truths this verse offers us today.
First, He can save to the uttermost! Who other than the only begotten Son of God could save us? He not only lifts us out of sin and cleanses us from all unrighteousness, but He does so permanently and completely—thus to the uttermost. Nothing can reclaim us or take us from our Lord once we are His (Romans 8:38-39). This is Good News to the utmost that Jesus not only forgives us if we confess and repent, but He preserves us for Himself for eternity.
Second, we have access to the Father by the Son. In Old Testament days, we would have gone to the priest with a sacrifice for him to offer on our behalf to seek forgiveness. Our relationship with God would have required a mortal man to help us meet with God, but not so now. After the work of the cross, we have a High Priest who is not from the order of the Levites but rather is from Judah and of the order of Melchizedek, without beginning or end. Jesus has made the way for us to pray directly to God, to seek forgiveness, to praise Him without ceasing, and to have fellowship. As Romans 5:2 states, “Through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God” (NKJV).
Third, Christ lives to make intercession for us. Romans 8:34 says we are no longer condemned because Jesus died for us and now lives; He sits at the right hand of God and
speaks on our behalf. Furthermore, He is our Mediator! 1 Timothy 2:5 tells us that there is one God and one Mediator between God and man; He is Jesus Christ. He paid our debt. He forgives our sin. He speaks on our behalf to the Father. What a Savior is He!
This reminds me of the old hymn by Fannie Crosby titled “Rescue the Perishing.” The refrain says:
“Rescue the perishing,
Care for the dying;
Jesus is merciful,
Jesus will save.”
So, with this Good News comes the responsibility to share it! Tell Them of Jesus!
