American Legion Lake Francis Ice Fishing Contest – Compete for prizes, participate in drawings and eat homemade stew at the event held the first Sunday in February. Hosted by American Legion SAL Post 311. Fourth of July – Features one of the largest parades in southern Minnesota, turtle races, vintage car show, kids fishing contest, street dances, medallion hunt, pancake breakfast, kids pedal pull, bingo and silent auction, volleyball tournament and fireworks. Concessions, beer garden. Visit elysianmn.com Spooky T rail – Sakatah Singing Hills Trail comes alive Oct. 31 with ghosts and goblins as families trick-or-treat along the trail. After, enjoy hot dogs and chips at the fire hall. Small Business Satur day – Come enjoy shopping in Elysian with 10 businesses and over 25 vendors participating. Deals and specials galore. Unique items just in time for Christmas. Christmas in Elysian – Held the first Saturday in December. Start off with a pancake breakfast and shopping with Mr. & Mrs. Claus. Shop at the local businesses during the afternoon. In the eve-
ning, a parade lights up Main Street followed by bingo in the fire hall.
Sakatah Singing Hills State Trail – In 1991, a group of 25 Elysianites began a four-year effort to lobby local legislators to fund blacktopping of the 39-mile trail. Bike, snowmobile, or walk. Stop and have a picnic at the wayside rest built along the trail that is reminiscent of an earlier train depot there. Visit dnr.state.mn.us.
City park and beach – Updated playground, sand volleyball courts, ball field, beach and picnic shelters provide on the south shore of Lake Francis. Parking and restrooms.
Lake Tustin Park – Quiet park with picnic shelter and horseshoes.
What’s New Sunset Park – Quiet park on the west side of town with a veterans memorial.
