Nikki Lane + Brent Cobb

This tour that pairs singersongwriter Brent Cobb with singersongwriter Nikki Lane celebrates Cobb’s critically acclaimed new album, Keep ’Em on They Toes, which was released this past fall on his own label, Ol’ Buddy Records. Produced by Brad Cook, Keep ’Em on They Toes came to fruition after Cobb moved back to his home state of Georgia after living for several years between Nashville and Los Angeles. Lonesome tunes such as “Shut Up and Sing” and “Good Times and Good Love” come off as simply folk tunes that speak to the workingclass experience. The show starts at 8 p.m. in the Beachland Tavern. Tickets cost $25 to $30. 15711 Waterloo Rd., 216-383-1124, beachlandballroom.com.

The hard rock act Korn is slated to return to Blossom. See: Thursday, Sept. 2.

SAT 08/28

Enigma Variations

A lovely tribute, Elgar’s Enigma Variations was an early version of what we now might call a mixtape. Elgar turned each movement into a tender portrait of a personal friend, and these powerful and emotional tokens of friendship have become extraordinarily popular. The “Nimrod” variation is often used as a song of national mourning and was played at Princess Diana’s funeral. The Cleveland Orchestra performs the piece at 7 tonight at Blossom. Check the orchestra website for ticket prices. 1145 W. Steels Corners Rd., Cuyahoga Falls, 216-231-1111, clevelandorchestra.com.

SUN 08/29

Road, country singer Thomas Rhett delivers some pretty infectious popinfluenced tunes. Album opener “Up” features spirited horns and a choir, and Rhett flexes his funk chops with “Don’t Threaten Me with a Good Time,” a tune that could give Bruno Mars a run for his money. Tonight’s show at Blossom show starts at 7:30. Check the Live Nation site for ticket prices. 1145 W. Steels Corners Rd., Cuyahoga Falls, 216-231-1111, livenation.com.

THU 09/02 SUN 09/05

Korn/Staind

Originally scheduled to play Blossom last summer in support of 2019’s The Nothing, Korn had to bump that date because of COVID. Though frontman Jonathan Davis has said the numetal group has already started to write a follow-up to The Nothing, expect songs from The Nothing to figure prominently in tonight’s set list. While The Nothing tunes such as “Cold” stay true to the band’s loud/ quiet ethos, songs such as “The End Begins” come off as more nuanced and show off the band’s musical evolution. Tonight’s show starts at 6:30. Check the Live Nation website for ticket prices. 1145 W. Steels Corners Rd., Cuyahoga Falls, 216-231-1111, livenation.com.

FRI 09/03

Oktoberfest

After last year’s cancellation, Cleveland’s Oktoberfest returns to the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds this year. This year, however, organizers have added a second weekend. The event will now take place from today through Monday and from Sept. 10 to 11. Considered one of the largest (if not the largest) Oktoberfest outside of Munich, Germany, the event will feature Oktoberfest-style beers, tribute bands, wiener dog races, authentic German and European foods, fireworks and the largest glockenspiel in the entire country. General admission tickets cost $15 at the box office. Four-day passes and VIP packages are available too, and parking is free. 19201 East Bagley Rd., Middleburg Heights, 440-243-0090, clevelandoktoberfest.com.

SAT 09/04

Cleveland Air Show

After last COVID wiped out last year’s event, the Cleveland Air Show returns to the shores of Lake Erie this weekend once again. The 2021 show at Burke Lakefront Airport will feature the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. There will be no gate tickets available for this year’s event. All tickets must be purchased in advance online. Check the website for a complete schedule of events and for ticket prices. 1501 N. Marginal Rd., clevelandairshow.com.

Salute to John Williams

Tonight at 7 at Blossom, Richard Kaufman, one of Hollywood’s most sought-after film score conductors, leads the Cleveland Orchestra in a program that pays tribute to composer John Williams, famous for delivering the scores to films such as Superman, Harry Potter, Star Wars and E.T. Check the Cleveland Orchestra website for ticket prices. Sept. 5. 1145 W. Steels Corners Rd., Cuyahoga Falls, 216-231-1111, clevelandorchestra.com.

MON 09/06

Indians vs. Minnesota Twins

At the beginning of the season, a four-game series against the Twins in September would appear to have great significance in terms of the division title. But since the Twins have faded from contention (and even unloaded Nelson Cruz, one of their best hitters, earlier this summer), the series doesn’t carry as much weight. The division rivals face off at 6:10 tonight at Progressive Field. Tickets start at $15. 2401 Ontario St., 216-420-4487, clevelandindians.com.

TUE 09/07

Dead & Company

When Dead & Company, a retooled version of the Grateful Dead, played Blossom back in 2017, we wrote that “the highlight, no doubt, was ‘Truckin’,’ which featured a spellbinding jam that dissolved into roving, spacey melodies.” That about sums up the entire show, which featured two sets of stellar jams. With the addition of singer-guitarist John Mayer, the group has found that connection to contemporary culture that brings out new fans. Tonight’s show at Blossom starts at 7. Check the Live Nation website for ticket prices. 1145 W. Steels Corners Rd., Cuyahoga Falls, 216-231-1111, livenation.com.
