The Choir of Man

With most of the Broadway touring shows still on pause because of the pandemic, The Choir of Man represents the sole performance taking place at Playhouse Square this month. A press release promises the show is both a party and concert: “It’s a pint-filled good time set in a working pub that combines hairraising harmonies, high-energy dance, and live Percussion with footstomping choreography.” Tonight’s show takes place at 7:30 in the Mimi Ohio Theatre. 78th Street Studios Third Friday Art Walk

Tonight, the Third Friday Art Walk returns to the cavernous 78th Street Studios. More than 50 studios and galleries will participate in this popular indoor art walk; be sure to check out spots like the Derek Hess Gallery, Tregoning & Company and Hilary Gent Studio. An Arts Filled Juneteenth

As part of African-American Music Appreciation Month, Western Reserve Historical Society presents an Arts-Filled Juneteenth Celebration today from noon to 4 p.m. As part of the festivities, pianist Daniel Spearman will perform from noon to 12:45 p.m. at the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum rotunda, the Passione Quartet will perform from 2 to 2:45 p.m. at the Music Settlement, Helen Turner-Thompson, Mark Thompson and, The Helen Turner-Thompson Gospel Music Ensemble will perform from 3 to 3:45 p.m. at the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum rotunda. Shane Gillis

Named an “up-next” comic at Comedy Central’s 2019 Clusterfest in San Francisco and a “new face” at Just For Laughs in Montreal, comedian Shane Gillis has started to receive some serious acclaim. Winner of Philly’s Funniest at Helium Comedy Club in 2016, Gillis regularly guests on and co-hosts Sirius XM and Comedy Central Radio’s The Bonfire. He’s also one half of Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast. Gillis, who has a very funny bit called “Why White People Like Country Music,” performs tonight at 7 at Hilarities, where he has shows scheduled through Saturday. Byron Bowers

Chappelle and Hannibal Buress, Byron Bowers was also featured as a New Face at the prestigious Just for Laughs Comedy Festival. He plays a recurring character on Lena Waithe’s Showtime series drama The Chi and also had a role in Shia Labeouf’s award winning film, Honey Boy. Greg Murray Book Signing & City Dogs Fundraiser

Rescue-dog advocate and professional photographer Greg Murray has followed up on the fan favorite book Peanut Butter Dogs with Peanut Butter Puppies, portraits of rescued dogs captured in studio with colorful backgrounds and in delightfully amusing detail. Locally based Murray is an award-winning lifestyle, commercial, and portrait animal photographer. He is active in animal rescue and advocacy for pit bull-type dogs. He’ll sign copies of his new book today from 2 to 4 p.m. at Visible Voice Books in Tremont. In partnership with Terrestrial Brewing, a portion of beer sales and book sales will be donated to Friends of City Dogs Cleveland, providing financial assistance for the animals at Cleveland Animal Care and Control, which includes daily enrichment opportunities, medical care and supporting the City Dogs adoption and volunteer programs. African American Soul Dancing and Book Signing Featuring Frank R. Ross & Friends

This Black Music Month event will showcase the marriage between movement and music in Black history and culture, especially as it relates to dance in the 20th and 21st centuries. The presentation will include accomplished dancers from Baltimore, Cleveland, Detroit, and Chicago as couples will demonstrate dances and performances based on Frank R. Ross’s Soul Dancing: The Essential African American Cultural Dance. After the dance demonstrations, Ross will facilitate a Q & A session about the book and talk about offer suggestions for incorporating African-American dance into academic programs. An Ohio native, Ross graduated from Cleveland’s John Adams High School. A dancer, choreographer and retired physical education teacher and guidance counselor, Ross is the creator of the Grand March, the National African-American Folk Dance. He is also the best-selling author of The Grand March – The Spirit of African-Americans from Publish America and Soul Dancing. The Essential African-American Cultural Dance Book. Indians vs. Detroit Tigers

The Indians get a break this week as the Detroit Tigers, a team in the midst of rebuilding, come to town. The Tigers own one of baseball’s worst records and simply don’t have the talent this year to compete against division rivals like the Indians. Tonight from 6 to 9, the Winchester hosts its weekly Open Turntable Tuesday.
