BUTTERCRUST PIZZA
The square-baked grandma pies at this SoDo hotspot veer more toward Detroitstyle, but whatever you call it, the airy, cushiony focaccia-like crust is a pleaser. Traditional round pies are also offered (the “Triple Mac & Cheesiest” is a fave) as are pinwheels, “Cheese Bombs” and bread bites. Open daily. (reviewed Oct. 6) 4781 S. MAGURO SUSHI
Chef Jose Joubert Torres fuses flavors from his native Puerto Rico into Japanese dishes with great success. Rolls — a must-try even for the rollaverse — combine sophisticated flavor combinations, while rice dishes like the bori bowl and tapas items like Korean kimchi-guava ribs give cause for regular visits. DAANA PANI INDIAN BISTRO
An all-veg roster of Gujarati cuisine complements traditional Desi offerings at this pleasant Indian restaurant on S. OBT. Dig into Guju comfort staples as khichdi and potatoes, undhiyu and papdi no lot. A pav bhaji thali is ideal for sharing, but don’t overlook chaat faves like pani puri. THE PINERY
Like Russell’s across the street, the Pinery plays up Ivanhoe Village’s pineapple farm roots with a striking interior. Dishes, on the other hand, don’t incorporate the fruit as much as you’d think, but there’s plenty of worthy comfort to be had in cornbread creamed corn, pecan-crusted grouper and Frenched pork chops with bourbonapple sauce.
