Lancaster, will again be the location of the show, which will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year’s event will include a DJ spinning classic oldies and a few food trucks to provide items for hungry attendees to purchase. There will be no charge for spectators to attend.

“We will try to keep classic (cars) together and newer styles together,” said Kroeck of the event, where classic, vintage, and unusual vehicles will be welcome to register by donation. Owners wishing to take part may start cruising their cars into the parking area at 9 a.m.

Kroeck said that cars may vie for prizes, including a best in show and a runnerup. “We are hoping we are able to give prizes for other (categories) as well,” said Kroeck, who added that funding for the winner’s prize will be provided by Wayne’s Towing & Recovery. Judges will be staff members at Neffsville Nursing & Rehab and residents of Neffsville Terrace.

Food trucks that will be on-site include Boothys BBQ and Mar’s Delights Ice Cream. Sponsor Sound of the Night Entertainment will provide the DJ. Kroeck said that other sponsors of the event include Rachel Stanley Photography, Cruise News Magazine, and Creative Printing Company.

Although the show will be smaller than the ones previously held at the Neffsville Park, Kroeck noted that the events will have a special purpose. “(The show) will raise awareness for elderly care, which the nursing home is passionate about,” said Kroeck. All funds raised by the event will go to Second Wind Dreams, a nonprofit organization that focuses on fulfilling dreams for people with Alzheimer’s and dementia and providing education and raising awareness about these two age-related issues.

Readers who have questions about the event may email admissions@ neffsvillerehab.com.

Greystone Manor Plans Horse Show

Anne Wissinger rides Violet in the 2021 horse show. She is accompanied by (from left) William Devorick, Hannah Zimmerman, and her instructor, Ellen Barnes.

Greystone Manor Therapeutic Riding Center (GMTRC), 1063 Hartman Station Road, Lancaster, will hold its annual horse show on Saturday, Sept. 24. This year’s show is titled “Horses and Heroes” and is inspired by the everyday heroes who helped the community come through the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first class will start at 9 a.m., and the show will conclude around 3:30 p.m. Board member and equestrian Marilu Garofola will serve as the judge.

During the show, the 37 featured participants will demonstrate their achievements in equitation over the year. Each participant will guide his or her horse through a hero-themed obstacle course. Groups of heroes represented in the obstacle course include medical professionals, caretakers, volunteers, first responders, educators, members of the military, and service animals. GMTRC will also have several local heroes at the event to welcome guests and share their work, including representatives of Susquehanna Service Dogs and several first responders.

Food will be available by donation, and logo wear and seasonal planters will be available for purchase. Event participants and attendees may visit the Hero Craft Stand to create a poster to honor a hero in their lives.

Attendance is free and open to the public. The show is supported by 23 class sponsors and 34 additional sponsors and advertisers.

For 41 years, GMTRC has been offering therapeutic riding lessons and equine-assisted learning to children and adults with special needs. Clients’ diagnoses include Down syndrome, neurological injuries, autism, depression, and anxiety. GMTRC’s therapeutic riding program seeks to aid clients in overcoming some of the challenges associated with their diagnoses with the help of 11 specially trained horses and ponies.
