It performs at a variety of local venues throughout the year and currently has about 30 members. The band rehearses weekly throughout the year and welcomes new members. The Strasburg Lions Club was chartered in 1932 as a member of Lions Clubs International and currently has over 50 members. The public is invited to attend the 28th annual Veterans Concert on Sunday, Aug. 1, at 7 p.m. The event will take place on the front lawn of the Strasburg Borough Office, 145 Precision Ave., Strasburg. Music will be provided by the Lampeter-Strasburg Community Band to honor America’s veterans. The concert will be free to the public. Attendees can bring lawn chairs or blankets on which to sit. In the event of rain, the concert will be relocated to the Strasburg Fire Station, 203 Franklin St., Strasburg. The Strasburg Lions Club, in recognition of veterans who are residents of the Strasburg area, will sponsor the event. “I am looking forward to

sitting in the shade and enjoying the concert after missing it last year,” said Strasburg Lions Club member Bruce Ryder. “Folks should come to the concert to help honor our surviving veterans and enjoy the patriotic music that we all know so well.” The band, which will be conducted by Howard Boots, will play patriotic songs, such as “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “Songs of Soldiers,” “Sound Off March,” “America the Beautiful,” and “Stars and Stripes Forever.” Other musical numbers will include “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho,” which will feature Dale Diller on the trombone, and “Sing, Sing, Sing,” with Howard Boots on the clarinet.
