“Remember America” To Emphasize Education
Writers House from pg 5 offices for students and faculty and a suite for out-oftown guests. It can also be rented out for conferences or other special events. Waters came to Elizabethtown College as a visiting professor in 2008 and planned to stay for one year. He was asked by the departing college president if he’d be interested in starting a writers house, and despite no experience with one, he jumped at the chance. An award-winning poet and author, Waters visited other writers houses on college campuses to get ideas for how he wanted to run the Bowers Writers House. The house is named for Elizabethtown alumni
Kenneth and Rosalie Erb Bowers. When Waters is not working, he loves to hang out with his dog and cook; before going to college, he worked his way up the ranks in the restaurant industry, eventually becoming an executive chef. However, he’s most passionate about the opportunities the Bowers Writers House offers, and he hopes the public will take advantage of the building’s programming, noting, “Everything we do is for the community.” For more information on the Bowers Writers House and a list of upcoming events, visit www.etown.edu /centers/writershouse.

(because) in today’s world, Christians are being put in a position where they will choose to be courageous or not,” said Stone. We are calling people to choose courage, and liberty will be the result.” Becker agreed, noting that the theme reflects the study of the country’s foundation, which is at the heart of Remember America. “We are reminding people (that) the founding documents of our nation and the writings of our founders … (had) a biblical world view,” said Becker. She also noted that the faith of the founders was applied to the building of the nation. “When you look at some of our founders and what they have written, you understand these were men of faith who were willing to stand and sacrifice,” she said. “Their faith inspired their courage, and what they endured established liberty like nothing else the world had ever seen.” Three types of tickets are

“The mission (of Remember America) is to remind Americans of their unique heritage of liberty that was founded upon biblical principles,” said Dayspring Christian Academy events manager Lisa Becker. “Our hearts first need to be turned to the Lord, and that personal revival extends from us to our family to our community to our state to our nation.” The 2022 Remember America Speaker Series will feature Turning Point USA president and founder Charlie Kirk as the keynote speaker. This year’s presentation, which will include chorale performances and an orator, will be held at the Lancaster County Convention Center, 25 S. Queen St., Lancaster, on Saturday, April 23. The dinner will be served at 6 p.m. The keynote speech, which will begin at 7:15 p.m., will be followed by a brief question and answer period. Kirk, an activist and radio
show host, founded Turning Point USA with Bill Montgomery in 2012, and he currently serves as CEO of Turning Point Action and Turning Point Faith. Turning Point USA is a nonprofit organization with chapters promoting conservative values on high school, college, and university campuses. Dayspring headmaster Dan Stone said that organizers have been hoping to have Kirk participate in Remember America. “As I was praying through our short list (of speakers) … I felt education is prominent in people’s thinking right now,” said Stone. “It’s a great time to highlight how education is such an important part of what our country is going through.” Stone noted that it seemed natural to choose Kirk to speak on the importance of education in restoring the country to biblical values. The theme of this year’s event is “Faith. Courage. Liberty.” “It starts with faith
