CROSS CUTTING ISSUES One of the challenges in delivering on Council’s vision is the need to balance the impact of economic development initiatives with the need to protect our environment and nurture our communities.This task requires the ongoing attention of Council in partnership with the community. Priority issues have been identified by Council and a number of frameworks and strategies developed to address them.The Economic Development Strategy will be implemented as part of the broader approach to these issues. Council’s Strategic Policy Framework includes a number of policies which have been developed in three main areas.
PRODUCTIVITY This section relates to the economic element of the triple bottom line approach. Documents pertinent to this section include: – The Economic Development Strategy (this document). – The Rural Futures Background Study, which identifies Council’s intentions for the use of rural lands. – The Rural Planning Background Study, which provides background information on rural areas and activities. – The Canelands Discussion Paper, which outlines Council’s intentions for the future use of Canelands on the Sunshine Coast.
PEOPLE This section relates to the social element of the triple bottom line approach and is centred around Health and Well-being, Social Cohesion and Accessibility and Connectedness. Documents pertinent to this section include: – The Open Space Discussion Paper, which outlines a framework for the preparation of an open space strategy for the Sunshine Coast. – The Affordable Living Discussion Paper, which outlines Council’s proposed strategies to improve affordability on the Sunshine Coast. – The Housing Needs Assessment Background Study, which provides information on existing and future housing needs for the Sunshine Coast. – The Cultural Heritage Background Study, which provides information as the basis for the preparation of a Cultural Heritage Strategy. – The Sustainable Transport Discussion Paper, which provides a framework for the preparation of a Sustainable Transport Strategy.
