The 1985 Varsity Football team consisted of: Paul Albers, John Allen, Glen Atkins, Brad Dennett, Daniel Bevels, Rusty Blair, Jimmy Boyd, Todd Burkhalter, Calvin Clowers, Gary Cole, Jeff Collins, Robbie Cook, Brian Corntassel, Kevin Cox, Dusty Dowdy, Joe Dowdy, lllya Dublin, Jack Duncan, Brad Edwards, Randy Edwards, Brad Fuller, Steve Googe, Steve Gladney, Kevin Graves, Scott Grodeman, Fabian Hall, Carl Hammond, Lamar Hightower, Lee Halder, Ken Hutchins, Hank Jackson, James Jackson, Steve Jackson, Marshall Jones, Do Langford, Mike LeCroy, Shane Lloyd, Mark Maxwell, Jamie McCord, Phillip McGinty, Sean Mize, Mike Newman, Corey Osteen , Rock Pace, Wayne Padgett, Korey Popham, Kevin Pruitt, Jeff Rickman, Mark Ridgeway, Mark Roberts, Danny Robinson, Randy Salmon, Jeff Shifflett, Tim Silvers, Matthew Smart, Brian Spears, Mark Tanner, Brett Tolbert, David Whichard, Bobby Woodard, Bryce Wood, Russell Wright. The Coaching Staff included: Coach Dragg, Coach Farrer, Coach Hallmark, Coach Horne, Coach Hunnicutt, Coach Knight, Coach Payton. Managers were : Rabby Dooley, Darrin Gunter, and Scottie Presley. This year the Varsity Football team started the ball rolling in the right direction. The Dragons' first obstacle was against Pickens County. The result was a 28-0 Dragon victory for the season opener. This win fired them up and gave them inspiration for their next game with West Rome . Playing the state champs wasn't going to be easy, but the Dragons gave it their best shot. Despite their efforts, the team fell to the Chiefs' experience 35-0. This loss began a two game losing streak that included the game with West Rome and the game at Coosa. The Dragons last at the Eagle Stadium 21-0. Nevertheless, retaliation on the part of the Dragons was in stare for the Model Blue Devils. As the two paired off for the annual Shrine Game, the tons rose to their feet and remained there until the Dragons defeated the Blue Devils 7-0. During the Dragons' open date, they worked hard to prepare for their next opponent. Until East Rome's Gladiators met the Dragons, they were an undefeated team . Throughout the game, it looked as if it were to remain that way. Until the last seven seconds, it appeared that anather defeat was in store for the Dragons, but a final touchdown was scored and the game ended with a final score of 7-7.
