When Drew proposed to Beth in December 2018 little did they know then how long their journey down the aisle was going to take. He popped the question in Barcelona, where Beth had enjoyed an unforgettable trip during her university day. “I’d spent the previous two years raving about it and the city’s La Sagrada Familia Basilica, so he decided it as the perfect place to pop the question,” Beth explains. However, his plan was almost scuppered on the way in. “Despite previously describing the building in great detail to him, he was completely unaware of the airportstyle security as you go in and was scrabbling about, shoving me through first so I didn’t see the ring box which he had to take out of his pocket to pass through the scanning machine!” Despite the unexpected hitch, she said ‘yes’, of course. Organising the wedding didn’t turn out quite as they’d hoped though after Covid struck and put pay to their original date. They ended up having to postpone four times before eventually tying the knot on 8th November last year. Read on for Beth’s account of their autumnal boho-themed day…

We loved Bressingham Hall and the fact that it had accommodation on site. With some family and friends travelling more than 200 miles to be there, we needed to be able to put them up close by.
After growing out of two pandemic wedding gown buys, I ended up getting my dress from a lovely lady who had fallen pregnant before being able to even take the tags off. I couldn’t believe my luck! It was a design I’d had my eye on from before Drew even proposed but it was sold out everywhere.

Drew wore a Next suit and didn’t have a traditional grooms party. I bought him a personalised Skagen watch as a wedding-day gift with the inscription ‘FINALLY 08.11.21’.

My maid-of-honour Chelsea wore a navy, floor-length dress with sequins and my man-of-honour Kehn wore a brown suit with a tie to match Drew’s. I decided from the very beginning to do the floristry myself. It’s certainly much harder than it looks and I had three trial runs over the course of two years to get the designs I actually used on the day.

Surprisingly we both felt completely calm on the day. I wasn’t nervous at all and it was so wonderful to just look into Drew’s eyes and know that he was there with me sharing the special experience.

We decorated the tables with brass candlesticks, dried flowers with pampas grass and table runners. I got pretty creative with the table décor and spent months at car boot sales hunting out brass candlesticks. I also coloured some basic flower vases myself to fit in better with our jewel-tone colour scheme.
We booked a guitarist for the ceremony and drinks reception and he really held the fort before the service. I was 20 minutes late down the aisle as Drew hadn’t realised he was supposed to have a pre-wedding chat with the registrars. He was too busy socialising and they couldn’t find him! 31

We had two tiers of lemon cake and one of sticky toffee pudding.
I used all dried flowers with lots of pampas grass which I’d cut from a friend’s garden years before and saved specifically for the wedding.
We provided sparklers for some Bonfire Night themed fun in the evening.
