I never wear make-up and feel overwhelmed by the number of products available. What’s the difference between foundation, concealer and highlighter, and do I need all three?
There are so many products available, and often companies market them in a way that can be confusing. Having said that, a good staple for every handbag is a concealer matched to your skin tone; this can disguise breakouts, dark circles and pigmentation. You can use your fingers to dab the concealer into any problem areas, the best trick being, over the top of your foundation, which is a product designed to even out your skin tone and blemishes. Foundations come in liquids, creams and powders and can be used sparingly for a lightweight, natural finish or can be built up to cover more, depending on your desired look. The best way to match a foundation is to test similar shades on your jawline by blending them in. The one that disappears into your skin is your shade.
I love a highlighter as it can be swept over the cheekbones to bring a bit of dimension to your make-up. I suggest using a cream stick highlighter as these can be a simple addition to your everyday look, and like the concealer, it can be blended into your foundation with your fingertips.
