Two Algonquin seniors receive National Merit Scholarships

NORTHBOROUGH - Two Algonquin Regional High School students were recently awarded National Merit Scholarships.

The ARHS graduates, David Gillingham and Pranitha Polavarapu, received college-sponsored awards, according to a press release from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

The winners are selected by sponsor college officials from among a pool of finalists who will be attending the school.

Gillingham will be attending Tufts University to study chemistry. Polavarapu will be studying medicine at the University of Rochester.

Gillingham and Polavarapu are two of over 7,500 2021 National Merit Scholars who received nearly $30 million in scholarships this year.

College-sponsored scholarships range between $500 and $2,000 every year for up to four years.

WESTBOROUGH - Three students were recently honored with $1,500 scholarships courtesy of the Westborough Women’s Club.

“We wish these students the very best as they begin their college careers,” the club wrote in a press release. “The WWC is so proud to be able to support them!”

This year, the scholarships were given to Belinda Roy, Rachel Fredman and Nicole Farmer. Roy will be attending Salem State University. Fredman is heading to the University of Maryland, while Farmer will be studying at Fairfield University.

Last year, the scholarships, which are usually received at graduation, were delivered to the recipients’ homes due to the pandemic.
