If there is no successful protest of the petition, Wink would be subject to a recall election.
Wink, who was elected to office in 2017 and reelected in 2021, is one of four councilmembers facing potential recall, including Mayor Othoniel Sierra, District 2 Councilmember Chelsea Nunnenkamp and District 3 Councilmember Joe Anderson.
A petition to recall Anderson was submitted to the city clerk’s office July 6 and Carlile said 583 signatures are needed to deem it valid. The deadline for the clerk’s office to determine whether it is valid and sufficient is July 13 by 5 p.m.

The efforts to recall the four councilmembers began over their consideration of a proposal to allow multifamily residences in single-family zoning areas. The multifamily proposal has been shelved as the city prepares to create an affordable housing task force.
Unlike her colleagues facing potential recall, Wink is under additional scrutiny for her attendance record at city meetings.
The clerk’s ruling that the Wink recall petition is sufficient kickes of a 15-day protest period, during which any registered voter with the ability to vote for a successor to Wink can file a written protest statement with the city clerk, which must include clear reasons for the opposition of the recall petition. If a protest is filed, a hearing will be set. The burden of proof would be on the protester, as they must prove that an element or elements of the recall petition are in violation of the mandated standards.
If there is no successful protest the petition would be presented to the city council at its next meeting, where the council would receive a proposed ordinance setting the ballot title for a special election. The council would then determine the date of a recall election to be held this summer or fall.
Ballots would ask Englewood voters a yes or no question of whether the councilmember should be recalled, and if the majority votes yes then the seat would be deemed vacant.
